It’s been a while since I did something impulsive. Life’s been a blur of deadlines, traffic jams, and the occasional teh tarik spill on my keyboard. So, when Lyra Tan, a friend casually mentioned Genting Highlands over lunch, I said, “Why not?” Packed my bag, grabbed my camera, and off we went—two wanderers chasing cool air and mountain mist.
Here’s what happened when I let the exciting Genting Highlands surprise me. I didn’t expect much, honestly. I thought Genting was just casinos and theme parks. But boy, was I wrong.
1. 🎢 SkyWorlds Theme Park – Exciting Genting Highlands
First stop: Genting SkyWorlds. I hadn’t been on a roller coaster in years, and my stomach reminded me of that fact very quickly. The Eagle Mountain ride? Let’s just say I screamed so loud the couple behind me laughed the entire time.
The park itself was like walking through a movie set. Liberty Lane had this retro vibe, and I couldn’t resist snapping photos of every corner. I even tried the app that lets you skip queues—felt like a VIP for once. Lyra, being the thrill junkie, dragged me onto every ride that looked remotely dangerous. I survived. Barely.
Side note: If you’re planning to go, wear comfy shoes. My sneakers were crying by the end of the day.
2. 🚠 Awana SkyWay – Floating Above the Jungle
After all that adrenaline, we needed a breather. Enter the Awana SkyWay. We chose the glass-floor gondola because apparently, we enjoy tempting fate. As we glided above the rainforest, the view was something else—mist curling around treetops, clouds drifting lazily below us.
There was a moment when everything went quiet. Just the hum of the cable car and the sound of my own thoughts. I looked over at Lyra, who was busy taking selfies with the clouds. Classic.
The ride dropped us off near Chin Swee Caves Temple, which turned out to be the perfect next stop.
3. 🛕 Chin Swee Caves Temple – A Pause for the Soul
I didn’t expect to feel so calm here. The temple sits on a cliff, surrounded by fog and serenity. We wandered through the grounds, admiring the statues and the towering pagoda. I lit a stick of incense—not because I’m religious, but because it felt right.
There’s a path that leads to a series of dioramas depicting the Ten Chambers of Hell. Creepy? Yes. Fascinating? Also yes. I couldn’t help but think how different this was from the flashy lights of the casino just a few kilometers away.
4. 🍓 Strawberry Leisure Farm – Picking Happiness
This was Lyra’s idea. “Let’s go pick strawberries,” he said. I rolled my eyes but tagged along. Turns out, it was one of the best parts of the trip.
The farm was quiet, tucked away in Gohtong Jaya. Rows of strawberries glistened under the cloudy sky. I picked a few, tasted one, and immediately regretted not bringing a bigger container. Sweet, juicy, and oddly therapeutic.
There’s also a lavender garden nearby. Smells amazing. Looks even better in photos. I may or may not have taken 37 selfies there.
5. 🎰 SkyCasino – A Little Glamour, A Lot of Luck
To end the day, we dressed up (sort of) and headed to SkyCasino. I’m not much of a gambler, but the lights, the buzz, the sheer energy—it was intoxicating. I played a few rounds of roulette. Lost some. Won some. Mostly lost. The reason this is an exciting Genting Highlands trip can be followed through below.
Lyra, on the other hand, somehow walked away with enough winnings to pay for dinner. We celebrated with cocktails and fries at one of the lounges overlooking the mountain. Fancy? Not really. Fun? Absolutely.
Final Thoughts: Genting, You Sneaky Gem
I went to Genting Highlands expecting a short escape. What I got was a whirlwind of laughter, misty views, spiritual pauses, and strawberry-stained fingers. The exciting Genting Highlands isn’t just about casinos or theme parks—it’s a patchwork of experiences waiting to be stitched into your memory.
Would I go again? Definitely. But next time, I’m bringing better shoes and maybe a raincoat. Because if there’s one thing Genting taught me, it’s to expect the unexpected—and enjoy every minute of it.
