Safe Pain Management Alternatives

With the rise of Fentanyl related deaths in the United States, it is becoming increasingly apparent that a rethinking of pain management is inevitable. The search for safer alternatives to relief from pain is of the utmost, dire, importance, and is one of the greatest challenges facing society today.

The DEA identifies Fentanyl as “a synthetic opioid typically used to treat patients with chronic severe pain or severe pain following surgery.  Fentanyl is a Schedule II controlled substance that is similar to morphine but about 100 times more potent.”

Morphine is a highly addictive drug, also used for pain management. During the World Wars, Morphine was thought of as the miracle drug, but is now more closely attributed to being the gateway to heroin. Once patients are released from the hospital, it is easy to abuse such an addictive drug. By the time the prescription runs out, the patient is already addicted and craving more.

Luckily, there are already safer, naturally occurring, alternatives to the pain management problem. One, for example, comes in the form of CBG products. CBG, or Cannabigerol, is a derivative of young cannabis plants. Upon entering the body, CBG is introduced to the body’s endocannabinoid system. CBG works by stimulating two cannabinoid receptors associated with pleasure, motivation, regulating appetite, sleep, and perhaps most important, pain.

And even best of all, CBG use is considered mild to none in terms of the intoxicative effects on its users. There are many other natural ways to alleviate pain, like lavender, rosemary, peppermint, and Eucalyptus. As drug overdoses rise to epidemic levels, the search for safer and more effective pain management solutions is at the forefront of cultural thought, and it may come down to further research and usage of products containing CBG.
