Most Malaysians have watch the depiction of Hang Tuah in Puteri Gunung Ledang with M. Nasir depicting the legend.
Some interesting facts have been brought to open my mind in the recent study of Hang Tuah. After few articles read and the history of Malaysia being brought into text books for history lessons, many articles are studied, be it on the web or in books.

In recent years while I was still schooling, Hang Tuah was taught in Sejarah(History) books potraying the slogan of “Takkan Melayu Hilang di Dunia Ini”. Well, this got me to searching the net. Why? Well, the name Hang Tuah basically arouses me. Imagine if we go back to history, I am sure we heard of Princess Hang Li Poh who came all the way from China to Malacca. Now notice the name HANG. Hmm… bear any significance.
Another thing is after the year 1999, there seems to be no more Hang Tuah history in the history text books. Wonder why that happens? Weird, he’s supposed to be in the history but why is he taken out? Isn’t he a Malaysian? Now what brought upon this exclusion.
Funny thing I had a thought is is Hang Tuah really spelt as Hang Tuah or ex: Hang Too Ah, or any other alike sound.
One post regarding Hang Tuah can be viewed HERE. It explains many facts. One point they did touch was the DNA extracted out from the “Hangs” were found to be Chinese (Maybe someone could tell me if it’s true). Interesting yeah?? Well facts they were, but will we ever wonder why are taken out from school history text books

2. Why is the original post in the link posted taken out? (to protect….)
3. What is the significance of Hang Tuah in Malaysia’s history?
4. Why the usage of “Takkan Melayu hilang di Dunia ini?” (How can the Malays dissapear from this world?) and is it taken out of context with their own suitable interpretation.
5. Even if Hang Tuah’s a different race altogether, what significance does it do to our history text books?

whatever it is we have accepted it as malay warrior. They are also lot of javanese been dramatised as malay legend and Siamese and Indian also been malaynised. Even it you study history malay also originated from Yunan China.
It all comes down to what does Malay, Chinese or Indian race mean. What is race? how are we different? We are all biologically of ths same species and race is normally defined “A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics” But if you look at Malaysia’s history everything is blended. Persian traders, Indian & Chinese, Indonesian they all came to Malaysia and look around you don’t you see these genetic traces in the faces around you? Also I read that the Sultan of Johor in the 18th century had a Romanian wife,but so what if our background is all mixed anyway, mathematically as a species we had to originate from a similar family so if you go back far enough in time our ancestors were quite close!(this is all theory anyway) But what I’m trying to say is we should be proud of our differences and our culture but not to the extent we seclude ourselves from each other completely. We are all homo sapiens…and biologically the more different two mates are genetically the stronger the offspring so nature wants us to blend! Well that’s my rant

Whether Hang Too Ah or Hang Tuah is ain’t important. They are just human being like us. Why should there be a question on the race? He is just a heroic/ legend of the past and no question should be raise!! Such thinking of you guys are degrading to your ownself.
We are Malaysian, whether we are chinese, indian or malays, we are not the origin to this Land we called Malaysia today. This will create dis-unity to our own country. The origin to this Land are the Aborigines.
We are just settlers backdated perhaps 700 years back. So, everyone who wanted comment whether Hang Tuah or Hang Too Ah should think deep before commenting on this.

It was an eye-opening experience for me, triggered by Malaysia’s latest hit movie ‘Puteri Gunung Ledang, to learn that the legendary warrior Hang Tuah, famed for his unrivalled loyalty, was originally known as Daeng Mempawah from the Tanah Bugis, famed for Silat Seni Gayong, of Makassar, brought to Melaka by Seri Bija Pikrama as a gift from Raja Goa to Sultan Mansur Syah. Perhaps it is the Bugis trademark for loyalty was that which led Hang Tuah to the equally infamous duel of honor leading to the death of his best friend Hang Jebat.
Hence,it could just be that Hang Tuah was a Bugis with chinese heritage traces back to the sons of the 500covoys that came back with sultan for all we know.We never know.

Hang Tuah has been the hero, for centuries, in poems, stories, classical prose, etc. Yes, the next question, Why is he removed from the text book? Probably he was just a fictional character, or secondly, his origin is doubtful. A Chinese or a Malay?
Most eastern races have a surname, INFRONT. The Hang brothers, all have a common name, a surname, an Eastern surname. Does that means he is a Chinese?
However, it’s inevitable to say that, the locals, in some sort, have “surnames” like the Dang, Wan, etc. Probably Hang is one of them. Who knows?
One thing is sure, the tomb of the great Hang Tuah, has not been found yet. With modern technologies spilling in, it’s pretty doubtful to say that we can’t find the tomb of the nation’s hero. It leads us to perhaps only one conclusion, is he a fictional character? Made up by the old folks to be told as stories to the young ones for motivation etc?
At the end, the answer resolves to one thing, we can’t conclude his origin or his existence in words. Practically, yes.
The malay race is technically from not just Malaysia but from other countries too eg phillapines, thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia etc that is why some physical features are quite similar except for the difference in Language.
Nowadays due to the invasion from china…most sterotypes are evident.

Hang Tuah dissapearance simply bec he migrated to Singapore looking for hang jebat son after his dissappointed luv wth the princess of majapahit. Singapore was attack by majapahit upon hang tuah request after hang nadim was killed by the sultan.Remember the story ‘Singapura di landa todak’….and hang nadim is the smart kid who told the sultan to plant banana tree trunk along the shores instead of using the poor citizens as fence against the ‘todak’(sword fish). The HANGs warriors came from china. They are muslim in china travel along with hang li po as bodyguards. Islam spread to china thru the silk road and chinese muslims brought Islam religion to malaysia,indonesia & singapore. as much as i want hang tuah to be real, or maybe Malay, i can’t help but to wonder.. did he really exist? i mean, there are so many conflicts and contradictions in history books, like Sejarah Melayu (believed to be written in 1537) and Silalatus Salatin (because i practise silat and many stuff about silat can be faound here)..

Berkenaan panggilan “hang” di awalan nama Hang Tuah , Di kedah dan Perak mejoriti masyarakat melayu disana memanggil seseorang dengan panggilan Hang. Contoh “Hang pi mana” menunjukkan panggilan kepada seseorang. Terlalu banyak kajian perlu dijalankan untuk hanya mentafsirkan panggilan Hang. Yang pasti dari mana perkataan ini berasal??? Kalau Hang Tuah berbangsa Cina kenapa Bapanya bernama Hang Mahmud dan ibunya Dang Merdu… Anda semua memang bijak tetapi tidak mengkaji kenapa raja dipanggil tuanku, gelaran “Patik”, Lakab atau gelaran memang popular suatu masa dahulu, dimana ia menunjukkan status seorang “Raja” atau “pembesar” atau “orang biasa/rakyat asal” ataupun “org yang merantau” . Kalau anda semua hendak tahu, Si Laksamana Tun Tuah ini sebenarnya Berketurunan Bugis, Dia juga adalah seorang Waliullah yang mempunyai Karamat atau Rijalulghaib. Dia telah mati , tetapi jasadnya dighaibkan . Itu urusan tuhan, kita tidak perlu tanya kenapa ia dighaibkan. Ulama-ulama islam di mesir ada menyebut , Tuah adalah wali sezaman, atau Wali kutub. Diutuskan seorang pada satu abad. Tuah juga 2 kali bertemu Nabi Khaidir , Pertama ketika diberi cembul air dan kedua ketika dia hendak ditanam hidup2. Hanya Manusia terpilih sahaja yang layak bertemu Nabi. Lagi kata Ulama-ulama ini , ketika perhimpunan Wali di bukit Kaf, Tuah dan Jebat ada bersama Wali-wali yang lain. Jadi sendiri fikirlah, siapa sebenarnya Tuah dan Jebat ini. Bukan sebarangan orang, tetapi mempunyai keramat yang tidak mampu dihuraikan oleh akal manusia. Berkenaan keris Taming Sari, memang benar pada sultan perak sekarang ialah keris Taming sari. Cerita tentang Tamingsari di buang tuah kedalam sungai mau pun laut adalah rekaan orang melayu dahulu, atas alasan orang-orang portugis memburu tuah dan kerisnya, kerana pergaduhan tuah dan portugis dihadapan maharaja cina telah menyimpan dendam pada portugis untuk memburu tuah dan kerisnya.
Selepas tuah menghantar raja dan pembesar lainnya ke Perak, keris tamingsari diserahkan kepada raja, tuah kemudian kembali kemelaka untuk menyelamatkan org melayu disana. Tetapi kerana usia yang sudah lanjut dan kekuatan yang semakin berkurangan, kapal beliau semasa bertembur dgn portugis telah di bedil dgn meriam portugis, pecah lalu karam. Tuah mengundur diri dan menyelamatkan apa yng termampu. dia kemudian beramal di bukit jugra mendalami ilmu tarikat dan berakhirlah kisahnya.
Apa yg ingin saya beritahu disini, kewujudan cerita keris tamingsari dicampak ke sungai duyung memang ada benarnya, tetapi keris itu tidak dicampak kedalam sungai duyung, cuma cerita sahaja. Ini adalah helah untuk kelirukan orang-orang portugis dari terus memburu Tamingsari. Hatta dibuat helah sekalipun , ada juga musuh dalam selimut yang bersekongkol dgn portugis ini memberitahu keris itu berada pada sultan di perak, mereka org2 portugis terus memburu, dan tamingsari disembunyikan ditempat tertentu. Sultan pula terpaksa melarikan diri kerana khuatir ditangkap portugis. Begitulah ceritanya.

My 2 cents worth:
Hang Tuah was taken out of the history books likely cos there wasn’t sufficient evidence to prove that he really existed. Unlike the case with Tun Perak, who was widely acknowledged n documented as the commander who led the expansion of Melaka into a regional military power under the reign of Sultan Mansur Shah.
The Chinese Hang Tuah (i.e. Hang Too Ah) hypothesis is just what it is, a hypothesis first proposed by Prof. Khoo Khay Kim of UM’s history faculty about 15 years ago. No more, no less.
But it seems that this hypothesis has picked up some momentum (mostly spin) of its own among some Chinese, for understandable reasons, e.g. to score some political points. So much so that now we even hear it’s been spinned up to another level with talk of Hang Tuah’s DNA proving Chinese ancestry.
Now that has to be complete bollocks, cos ya can’t get DNA without first obtaining the cells from a body or parts of body tissue, including blood, bone or hair. If ya can’t even find Hang Tuah’s proven remains, how could ya get his DNA? Stupid.
Another hypothesis, more plausible, is that he was just an imaginary hero created by whoever created him, with the original idea inspired by the legend of Arjuna (from the Mahabhrata) n his 4 brothers of the Pandava clan, who went to war against their cousins from the Kaurava clan (i.e. battle of Kurukshetra). The Arjuna legend was then simplified into a story involving 5 very close friends, adapted to fit into Malay culture n given a Melakan flavour.
Shades of Tun Perak, Gajah Mada, n Parameswara himself was then thrown in into the overall makeup of Hang Tuah’s character. N then, voila! You now have a Malay superhero.
the fact is Laksamana Cheng Ho, muslim chinese introduced Islam to nusantara. Then Parameswara visited China to tie relationship and converted to Islam. there is high possibility that Hang Tuah and friends were also muslim chinese and have close tie with kesultanan islam melaka. we have to face the reality that we have been brainwashed by ‘penjajah’ for 600 years that we are not told the true history. Saya rasa sama ada Hang Tuah ini berbangsa Cina atau Melayu pada masa ini tidak lagi penting kerana ini hanya membuka satu peluang bagi orang orang yang hanya mementingkan kepentingan diri sendiri ataupun ingin membangkitkan isu isu perkauman yang sememangnya sensitif.. dan bakal membangkitkan kemarahan antara kaum kaum yg ada di Malaysia..
Tidak cukup kah dengan apa yang ada di Negara kita berbanding dengan negara lain?yang mana rakyatnya yang berbilang kaum dapat hidup dalam susana yang aman dengan toleransi yang sememangnya patut dibanggakan setakat ini?
Setelah melihat beberapa blog blog dan pendapat berkenaan dengan isu ini saya tidak dapat melihat apakah manfaat yang boleh kita dapat dari isu ini? Apa yang begitu ketara sekali hanyalah satu isu perkauman yang bakal menjejaskan keamanan yang kita semua berkerja keras untuk di nikmati semua sebabkan toleransi anatara kaum yang ada di Malaysia ini
Saya percaya meskipun sememangnya dengan pandangan yang lebih realistik memang benar setiap orang / kaum memang akan terasa tidak berpuas hati dengan apa yang mereka ada sekarang disebabkan situasi tertentu tetapi saya masih mengharapkan semua yang membaca pendapat ini akan membuka minda mereka dengan lebih luas dan cuba melihat “the bigger picture” or work for “the common good of all..”

Majapahit… Portugis… Hmmm. The old Javanese manuscript and history did not mentioned any name of Taming Sari. Not even the Portugis. No matter what’s the story, the hearsay, the ethnic or whatever, the interesting piece is that it does blow the fire of spirit in oneself. The spirit to fight, the spirit to live, the spirit of being loyal.

Dari komen-komen yang dibuat banyak percanggahan fakta. Siapa Tuah, hidup bila, meninggal bila, tinggal dimana dan sebagainya. Ada yang kata tuah hidup dari zaman Sultan Melaka, Portugis dan Belanda. Jadi Tuah berusia ratusan tahun baru meninggal. Dan bangsa tuah ini terus menjadi topik. Saya fikir lebih baik tak usah pening kepala fikir pasal bangsa dan siapa Tuah ini. Cukup kalau kita tahu yang dia hidup zaman Sultan Melaka dan meninggal sebelum kedatangan Portugis sekitar (1496). Itu yang benar.
Hang tuah tidak menghilangkan diri tetapi membawa diri jauh dari Raja sebelum kedatangan portugis. Ada kajian mengatakan hang tuah telah pergi ke GOA India, dan menderhaka kepada sultan melalui lain negara dengan membocorkan rahsia ketenteraan negeri melaka kepada pihak portugis, setelah itu portugis menyerang Melaka dan telah berjaya menawan melaka tetapi peperangan sebelum ini portugis telah beberapa kali kalah, selepas mendapat rahsia dari hang tuah mengenai ketenteraan melaka dan senjata yang uzur portugis menang. itu sebab tak berkubur di Malaysia.

The historic treasure imbedded in Malaysia lies on few clueless past, like the legend of the Hang brotherhood. If local or foreign archaeologists, historians, scientists and geneticists proved otherwise, then as citizen of Malaysian, we should be bold enough to accept truth, and adapt. And hey, I yet to see any complete non-fictional documentary to be release related entirely on the legendary Hang brotherhood, or it will always be fabled malay movies.

the malay race is mostly a mix of many other races too probably.plus the cultures are heavily influenced by other races.im a mix of punjabi maliali chinese and prob some malay(from the nyonya side).most people would say i look preety malay.hahaha. the point is, cant we all get along..forget about the origins and races.lets start something new…lets all be malaysians!
