Perhaps after the Covid-19 dies down, the first ever country that I might ever drop by would be a neighboring country. It was either Thailand or Singapore which is both assessable by land and perhaps let’s look at going South this time. Here is how I would plan my trip from KL to Singapore as how I would previously do too.
How Many Days from KL to Singapore?
If you are looking to directly go straight ahead to Singapore, there are multiple entry points you can do it.
Flight
The fastest option available right now is to take a flight directly from KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) which is located at Sepang, about 50km away from the capital city. Using this method will undoubtedly enabled one to be in Singapore earlier but also meant that you would only be traveling in Singapore and not go through all road trips.
Bus Route
Going the bus route from Kuala Lumpur will take about 8 to 10 hours. This will be sort of the longest way to go to Singapore by land. Of course, that is also dependent on the traffic conditions. Price wise, this would be the cheapest way to travel there.
Auto/Car Route Perhaps Hybrid Bus
Going by car is the route that I would recommend if you’re looking to drop by to certain places as this will be where you’ll be able to drop along the way to certain locations before arriving at Singapore. You will be able to drop by at the famous Seremban Siew Pao (braised meat Pow / Dumpling), Otak-otak Muar (special fish cake dish in Upper Johor) and also drop by to Nusajaya which also has few place of interest in Johor.
Choice: 3rd Choice, Car Route.
Days of Travel: 1 week.
First 2 days would be spent on the traveling time and then finally ended on Johor Bahru. If you’re a Hello Kitty fan, you may also stay at the hotel in Hello Kitty Town, Nusajaya or perhaps the better known Legoland Hotel. If you have kids, this will be a place to drop by a night. This is how the first part we can plan from KL to Singapore. Wonder when I will begin to start telling all my travel stories.
Legoland
Legoland Malaysia was opened way back in 2013 and the only Legoland in Asia. My experience of staying in Legoland back there was an awesome experience with themed rooms (Pirates, Robot, Space) and if you have kids, they have a minigame in the room which the kids can figure out to open the safe in the room to reveal a Lego playset to be taken home if you booked a stay there.
There is waterpark, theme park (rides, display models, Star Wars Lego display) and also an aquarium (recently opened) which one can visit.
Onwards to Singapore
For those traveling from Malaysia, or rather this post that mentioned from KL to Singapore, do note that Singapore is another country and this is where you must be traveling with your passport. If you would like to drive in to Singapore, please reload/purchased the Autopass with monetary value in it as this will be the way to pay toll during the drive in the city. To drop this hassle, let’s take a bus instead (if going with kids, just drive the car though)
Parked your car at the designated indoor parking lots in Johor and take the bus that goes to Singapore. Traveling by bus also can cut short the traveling time as the bus has their own lane (avoid the traffic). Once you’ve reached Singapore, you have many modes of traveling which is the MRT/bus route.
Best Time to Visit Singapore
You could practically visit Singapore any time of the year. Though here are the better opportune times to visit Singapore.
Christmas Season
Once the pandemic dies down (no more Covid-19 and perhaps vaccine is effective), going during this season will be a happening time. For first time goers, you can experience the fun and lights. Did I mentioned that on Christmas eve, you would have a large crowd gathering at Orchard Road as the whole street is decorated with lights, large Christmas trees, Santa Claus bellowing Ho-ho-ho.
Non School Holidays
If you’re a traveler like me which prefer taking photographs of landmarks, location and to avoid the crowd, this is the best time to travel to Singapore. Avoid public holidays as this will be the busiest time to go to. There are few landmarks like the Merlion, Marina Bay, China Town.
Staying at Singapore
Now to decide the stay in Singapore. You could go the budget route, or the relaxed version or perhaps the Hybrid. Do plan your stay ahead in a hotel or perhaps a dormitory.
There are many locations that you would like to visit, if one is traveling light (solo, couple) then I would suggest to try different locations around Singapore. For instance, if one is thinking of visiting the Merlion and the Marina Bay (Sentosa) area, try staying at hotel around the are like the Fullerton Hotel which is about 3 minutes’ walk to the Merlion.
From there you would also be able to gauge the crowd and when to take your iconic photos. Best time to take photos here would be during the sunset.
My Verdict: Stay in few places, at least 2 places to enjoy the different feel. You can try the hotels in Chinatown and maybe an experience of Staycation Singapore around the outer parts of Singapore like in Yishun, Ang Mo Kio.
That reminds me it is time to review some places in Singapore which will then enable you to choose where to stay.
Places of Interest
You might or might not want to go to these places depending on what one wants to visit.
Orchard Road
This place has been mentioned once above though and it’s a place for shopaholics to visit. Deemed the shopping haven filled with different shopping complexes, a must visit for those of that interest. Traveling by MRT to these locations though.
Chinatown
Try to experience the old Singapore by going to Chinatown for your Chinese food and perhaps a place to book your budget stay. Of course, do note that staying here would be great but also the conditions are a bit different from what you would expect. One good point of staying here is that you will be able to have your midnight snack or supper readily available. Perhaps a massage.
Bishan Park
This has got to be one of the biggest leisure parks in Singapore where families would come out and take a stroll during the morning or evening. If you would like to ride a bicycle or perhaps do your daily Taiichi, this would be the place for your relaxing stroll. That takes me back, you could rent a bicycle here and you may then ride all the way to the next location. Fitness enthusiasts can cycle or jog along the well-maintained tracks, accompanied by the soothing babble of the river.
Lower Peirce Water Reservoir
Fishing enthusiast should definitely give this place a go.
The Lower Peirce Reservoir is one of the oldest reservoirs in Singapore. It is located near MacRitchie Reservoir and Upper Peirce Reservoir. Previously known as Kallang River Reservoir or Peirce Reservoir, it was renamed Lower Peirce Reservoir after the creation of Upper Peirce Reservoir.
You could cycle all the way here or bring along your fishing gear and then have a leisure catch. Some species caught here include the zebra tilapia, giant snakehead, giant gourami, and the common snakehead.
Other place of interest
There are many other locations like Marina Bay. Entrance for adults starts at S$23 and S$17 for kids aged between 2 and 12 years. To get here you can take the MRT and stop at Bayfront, from where you can walk via the luxury mall directly into the hotel’s gigantic lobby.
There is also the Universal Studios Singapore which is located in Sentosa Island Singapore. It features 28 rides, shows, and attractions in seven themed zones. This park began in 2008.
The S.E.A Aquarium is a good visit and also the Dolphin Island is a one time experience you should try. You get to look at the pink dolphin.
Clark Quay is also another place of interest for your romantic night and also for some Japanese food (I won’t be covering food in this segment though).
Too Many Things to Do in Singapore
I have now covered some location in Singapore and perhaps it’s best for you to plan where and what you would like to visit. You could just use this KL to Singapore travel plans for your future endeavors too. Food is definitely going to be covered or you can perhaps have a visit on my previous Singapore trip back then way back in 2010 or if you’re wondering what food I tried in Singapore for those food hunters.
Perhaps another article about the food in Singapore on my next article. So, what other place of interest do you think we should cover. Perhaps after the pandemic is over, we could then cover these locations for you for your next travel plans.
Until then Adios.
