[Movie] I am Number Four

Posted by Daniel Chew On March - 12 - 2011

First and foremost, it has been such a long time since that I have done a movie review. Well, come to think of it, it’s been such a long time that I don’t really remember. So this time I am going to review this movie, I am Number Four.

I Am Number Four Poster

Then Why Suddenly Review This Movie?

I am sure by this time; lots of you folks out there have definitely watched this highly acclaimed movie with superb visual effects that were shown on the trailer. Well, as a matter of fact, I had my hopes not so high after the disastrous movie in the title of Dragonball : Evolution.

If you did watch the movie Dragonball, you will know how bad that movie was.

Look Ma! Shining Hands

Look Ma!!! Shining Hands!!!

Now what has Dragonball: Evolution got to do with I am Number Four?

Weird… why do I talk about a totally different movie? The Weird One proclaimed that aside the cool visual effects compared to Dragonball, this I am Number Four movie has got nicer graphics and made good use of the current technology able to movie makers.

Of course, let’s get back to Dragonball: Evolution.

Storyline was like Son Goku was trained by his grandfather. He was still young and naïve. Then his grandfather died to a monster (stupid green monster that looks like some cheap makeover) and he left and made friends and found a master. This master thought him and he slowly learned to use his power. A girl was thrown into the fray where she would be the love of his life. Then in the end, Goku would finally defeat Piccolo (yes.. that is what they called that green monster) and he and the girl would live happily after that.

Now you got the picture. Young and naïve + girl + acquire power + defeat bad guy + WIN!!

Similarly, I am Number Four is as a matter of fact, similar. Someone who grew up and found out he has powers and then worked together with a friend to finally defeat the evil guys. Of course, a girl was thrown into the mix up.

Storyline was too predictable (Dragonball was based on a comic adaptation so it’s understandable) and why the heck they have got to throw a female character to be his love. They should only exist in female novel kind of movies like Twilight. Seriously action packed movies shouldn’t even have them. It’s a movie sin to have them. Imagine all the fighting and then some weak human jumps into the fray and the fighting goes all soft. Imagine in an action movie, there’s only like 15 minutes of action.

Original I am Number Four Poster

So what else should I look for in the movie?

Okay, it’s not all that bad. For those who do not mind spoilers, prepare to go awwwww at the cute dog in the movie. I have a soft spot for canines but overall I would rate this movie only good for it’s visual effects but other than that, a low point from me.

Of course, this movie just reminds me of Sylar from the Heroes series (wonders whatever happened to the series?). You’ll understand once you watch this movie.

From a rating of 10, I will give this movie a rating of 4. Good cinematic effects. Lucky it wasn’t all Twilight here or I’ll give this movie a 1 out of 10. Of course, if Sora Aoi is the movie, then it would have been a 10 (yes… it doesn’t matter how bad the movie is as long there’s Sora Aoi).

Anyway thanks to Nuffnang and Churp Churp, I still get to watch this movie for free and also had a short chat with Timothy Tiah after the end of the movie. Good to see you there, Tim.

The Wheels – Disco Roller Skating

Posted by Daniel Chew On February - 4 - 2011

How long has it been? 15 years? Yes….. freaking 15 years since I last roller skated or roller bladed and finally I agreed to go roller blading again. That’s where I found The Wheels, a Disco theme roller skating rink.

The Wheels Logo

Ehhhh.. wait, DISCO??? WHAT DISCO?? Yes, imagine a group of friends getting together and partying and discoing but all these are done on wheels (skates and roller blades). Sure is a nice touch to the feel. For someone like me who has left the disco environment for who knows how many long years, this brings me back to my college days.

Taken Using Canon Ixus 130

The Wheels Disco Skate Ring

My first thought was IS THIS REALLY A SKATING RINK? We (yes, I did say we) were welcomed with techno music that suddenly made me felt like I was high in dancing mode. Then I realized it’s only a disco themed skating place, what more has this place got to offer? Then I saw that Ahhhh… they have disco themed roller skates and roller blades too.

Roller Blades with LED Disco Lights

What do I mean by that? Look at the other one, the one without the lights? There’s a battery there? Battery powered roller blades, now if only they gave me a speed boost.

Just so that I tell you, I was a noob in roller blading, heck I even forgotten to tie the shoelaces all the way to the top that I lost my balance so many times. Another thing is that they have a locker for rent in order to keep your belongings. Nice!

So who are the We? It’s The Weird One, Daniel Chew and Yen of course. Who else?

DanielCtw and Yen Skating

Now who said people like me can’t skate?

Of course, where the heck is this place? It’s at The Wheels and it’s at Subang Avenue.

Here are the details of the skating place.

The Wheels – Disco Roller Skating
Jalan Lot S4.01

Subang Avenue Shopping Mall
SS16/1, Subang Jaya

Original Price: RM25 for a whole day
Largest roller skating rink in Malaysia 16,000 square feet
Free rental of roller blades and roller skates

Suitable for friends day out and family day.

Pricing for the Wheels Skating Rink

Notice the price list given above. Well, too good to be true? Wait till you see what else they have to offer. As it has just been opened recently, there’s a promotion going on. Instead of paying RM25 like other people would have paid, you only have to pay 50% off it’s original price. That’s only RM12 for the WHOLE DAY!

Okay, I lied when I said I just so happened to have the urge to go skating and suddenly just bumped into The Wheels. Basically it’s all thanks to Hahah.com.my for allowing us to have a free time at The Wheels. They have these amazing deal and like I said, we can now buy the whole day pass and you can get it at Hahah.com.my. So Get The Deal with only RM12 for the whole day at Hahah.com.my. Of course, this deal last from 3 – 8 Feb 2011, so get it quick. multiple vouchers can be purchase so buy it as gifts or host a party at the Skating Rink!

Hahah Logo

Though I’ve always wondered how come Hahah is spelt with an additional ‘H’? Well that’s for you people to find out. When I look at the photo, I realized that the extra H goes well with the logo. Well, maybe that’s my weird intuition.

As of now, every website usually has its own facebook site, and Hahah is also the same. Hop on to their FaceBook page (which has 25k fans currently) and find out their latest deals.

Crap, forgot to say that this Hahah has something called the Rewards Multiplier. What it means? We understand that Hahah offers 50% off this deal for The Wheels. But….. for after 20 units are sold a free mineral bottle will be given. So the more people buy, the better the deals.

Momiji Japanese Buffet Restaurant Singapore

Posted by Daniel Chew On January - 11 - 2011

This post is the continuation of my escapade to Singapore during Christmas. One thing I had to try though was the taste of fine food and what a way to start with Japanese Buffet at Momiji. Lucky places were booked by my cousin that was staying in Singapore and we finally get to go in earlier than those queuing outside waiting for their turn to go and have the all you can eat offer.

Momiji Japanese Buffet

As an avid fan of Japanese food, you can wonder what I would start my feast on first. Definitely sashimi.

Picking Up Sashimi

There are oysters, salmon, prawns, tuna and whatever other sashimi one could find there. This is food haven for me. Of course, not everything was taken raw. I mean, that’s not just what all Japanese food is.

So time to indulge myself into something cooked too. Rather Half Cooked.

Oyster Prawn and Siu Mai

Oyster with Cheese, Prawn with Cheese and Xiu Mai (Chinese food???)

Though I have a complaint though. Why is this called a Seafood Steamboat?

Seafood Steamboat

All because they have 1 prawn and they call it the seafood steamboat. Pathetic. Nevertheless the soup was amazing.

There is also what we call Hot Plate dish. So off I went to get my Hot Plate (Teppan) Beef.

Teppan Beef Momiji

Photo is a little dark, but you get the point.

Fruit and Desserts Momiji

Also with the variety of fruits to clear off those toxins. There’s Dragonfruit, Honey Dew, Guava, Grapes, Jackfruit and also white chocolate dip. Savor the moment.

Finally to top it all off, this is the highlight of why eating here during dinner time is the best time. There is…….

Snow Crab & Prawn at Momiji

SNOW CRAB!!!! The sight of it tells it all. It’s definitely worth coming here to eat.

See it to believe it. Look at Yen having a go at the Snow Crab.

Yen Having Snow Crab Feast

1. Hmmm…. which one should I eat first?
2. Well, Dan which one do you think?
3. I just love the taste of the Snow crab!!
4. Ahhh… I can’t take it anymore, I am gonna have my first bite of it.

See… told ya it’s too hard to resist. Even I can’t stop eating this Snow crab after putting so much on our plate.

Daniel Chew with Snow Crab Feast

Now looky here. The Weird One DanielCtw‘s turn to pose with the Snow crabs before I finally devour all of them. Super greedy. Having 4 legs instead of 2 though.

How to eat the snow crab? All you need is to crack the joints. Then pull out the flesh from the legs and claw and then Voila!!! It’s out. Time for some crab feast.

Of course there are variety of food that I didn’t get to try as my mind was focused more onto the shashimi and the Snow Crab.

Shishamo Shioyaki\\

Food like the Shishamo Syioyaki also didn’t really get to try. All in all, the food at Momiji Japanese Buffet Restaurant at POMO is one of the best I tried in Singapore.

Definitely a place worth eating.

Momiji Promotion

A feast you will not want to miss it. Unlimited Serving of Snow Crab.

A Holiday Villa Subang Pre-New Year Dinner Treat

Posted by Daniel Chew On December - 21 - 2010

Just a week back (Ahhh… yes… the memories of the food) I was invited to had a preview and taste and a special treat from Holiday Villa Hotel & Suites located in Subang, Malaysia. Why? How?? I didn’t know until I found out that whoa…..

Holiday Villa Facebook Page

This was mentioned on their Facebook page. It says I won a treat by Holiday Villa Hotels & Resorts and is in for a night of great food, good company & simple fun. Here is the close up of the photo. Well, I am sure there are more to come from Holiday Villa on their Facebook page. Of course this food preview was actually a preview of what’s to be offered on the 31st December 2010.

Lucky Winners

So it was Merryn Tan, Kian Fai and THE WEIRD ONE (ME) who will be dining there and dined did we. Now enough of the talk. Let’s get on with the show, errr… I meant food.

Holiday Villa Subang

Opps.. this ain’t food. Well, just showing the surroundings around there. Since it’s dinner time, there are lights all around.

So now we have our first food for the night…. TA DAH….

Ice Decoration

Hey, this is no food. This is merely a decoration with oranges. Not just any mere decoration. It’s made of ICE. Yes, ice that’s slowly melting due to the light shining towards it. Such excellent masterpiece.

Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and I went to have my food after the opening speech by the organizer in charge. The first thing that brought my eyes to was the pastry area. Well, since it’s a poolside dinner and the most visible ones are beside the poolside and beside where I was sitting.

Bread Galore Holiday Villa

Bread comes in every shape and sizes. Strange enough, I did something else instead of eating it there and then. This was what I did.

Bread Spiral

Huh? What is this shot? Before this photo, look at the right side. You’ll noticed where this shot actually came about. Yes, so I can’t resist taking weird photos.

Now being a person to start with desserts it’s kind of different. Well, one good thing is that while everyone is queuing up to get the main dish, no one will fight for the queue when you start with dessert. So that’s where I was headed.

Cake Pastry

Cakes! Yes, and it’s Chocolate too. A favorite of mine. There are so many pastries and cakes out there, it’s extremely difficult to put everything of them in this post.

Now here are somethings to note. Let’s visit the food by their locality.

ASIAN FOOD

Holiday Villa Asian Cuisine

Yes, local Asian Cuisine. You have chinese style noodles and other Asian food that day. Seeing Asian food though, there are many varieties.

Holiday Villa Indian Food

One of them is an Indian Food variety. If you’re a fan of mamak food and Roti Naan or Tandoori Chicken, you’ll know what this “BIG POT” is. Yes, it’s all natural fire in there and here it is, 2 bread is being cooked on top of it. Authentic food to say the least. Fresh from the open oven.

When one say Asian Food, one cannot forget about JAPANESE FOOD.

Holiday Villa Japanese Food

Yes, that’s Mr Takashi making the Temaki (Hand Rolled). Te means Hand in Japanese. How to write it. 手 (Kanji) or て(Hiragana) for ‘Te‘. Yes, I was surprised. They brought in a Japanese chef to prepare their Japanese food. That’s the quality you can get from here. Now as a fan of Japanese food, you bet that I took most of the food from the Japanese food section. *Evil laughter*

Next up….

WESTERN FOOD (Sort Of)

Holiday Villa Turkey

In lieu and in the spirit of Christmas and also Thanksgiving (a few days back), we had TURKEY. Ahhh… directly served straight from the whole turkey. What can I say about this? Impressed me a lot, the meat was so tender and cooked based on the expectation I had or rather much better than I expected. Definitely had seconds for this. Though had to keep my stomach for some other food tasting.

Holiday Villa Roasted Lamb

I also had Roasted Lamb (BBQ Lamb) and we can see it being prepared directly on top of a fire. Now that’s what I call fresh meat. The person doing the cooking was patient enough with me and even made a few fire to spark off from the fire place to help me take this shot. Verdict : The meat from this was cooked well. I love lamb.

There are other meat that I didn’t get to take photos of like the Beef, Chicken and other cutlery and meat dishes. Those posted are the few notable ones. Of course with so many meat being consumed, I need to have something refreshing and what a good idea then to head on to the dessert table and have a bowl of ice ball (Ice Kacang) with lots of ingredients thrown into it.

Holiday Villa Dessert

Of course, the end result is not that presentable but what’s more important is how tasty it is. Why do I say that? Ice melts, thus I delayed my shot till later and looked what it became.

My Ice Kacang

Still nevertheless, superbly refreshing and cooling and look at the amount of ingredients in it.

Last but not least, let’s have a look at another category.

SEA FOOD

Holiday Villa Seafood Clam

Another favorite of mine, seafood. This time we have clams, prawns, fish, crab and also oyster. Just look at the amount of clams here. Hey wait.. did I say Oysters????? You bet I did.

Holiday Villa Oysters

OYSTERS!!! I still remembered I last had Oysters a year ago and this time I get to eat it again. Though I wished one had a pearl in it so I could actually get RICH something out of it.

Somehow though, I felt that I shouldn’t eat so much if not later I would have problem walking back towards the car (Experienced it before and needed someone to support me yes…. I am a glutton). So this was all I took.

My two Oysters on my Plate

Two Oysters on my plate and that’s all I had. Though now I wished I had more.

Conclusion

Finally after all these food, you must be wondering how much will all this cost actually. Well, a normal buffet dinner would cost about RM70++. Ehh?? RM70++ with Oyster and lots of other varieties. Yes, you read it right.

Of course this whole thing wouldn’t be complete with a photo of the ones who got invited to the dinner. Alas the three of us took a shot and all thanks to Merryn.

Here are their links to this food review.

Which Taker am I?

Posted by Daniel Chew On October - 21 - 2010

The Takers?? Which Taker am I? Surprisingly this is just the beginning. After taking the quiz, I found out that I am this taker.

DanielCtw as Takers Leader

Judging from the quiz, I am the Leader. Ahhh… I must say this really suits me well. That means I am a person behind the operation, and also figuring out about the situation. So basically, I am the brains behind the whole operation. Hey wait, I still don’t get what Takers really meant about?

Anyway so I changed it to suit myself.

DanielCtw as Leader Taker

Does that mean, one have to target something to take in heist? How about a robbery? This is definitely confusing. Since I am bloody clueless as to what this movie is all about, I went to look up about this movie at http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/takers/site/ (yes, it’s the same site for the quiz!) Actually this would help me understand what all the fuss this movie is about and why is everyone doing the quiz. Also there is a contest going on to win Sony Walkman!!!

Watch the trailer to know more about it

This is the hypnosis of the movie

TAKERS takes you into the world of a notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) who continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who is hell-bent on solving the case.

So there you have it, bank robberies. Ahhh… some movies are meant for my eyes to watch. So I am trying to get my passes to this movie. Last but not least, this movie was brought to you by Sirens Media & Sony Pictures.
