Fun at Bukit Tinggi, Pahang

Posted by Daniel Chew On April - 16 - 2011

It was time for some recap. This time it was a day trip to Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. The blue sky was magnificent. The day was good. It was time to visit one of the nicest place to take some photos.

Bukit Tinggi

Welcome to Bukit Tinggi! That word meant Tall Hill. Weird isn’t it. I thought hills are usually tall, definitely not short. Of course at this location there are many places where one can take photos.

Below and above are the few examples which one can take with their cameras.

Inside Bukit Tinggi

Such superb place for photography. Though this is not only a scenery photo blog. It’s a personal travel blog and definitely I would love it to be more personal. So have a look at the group that had their time on this trip.

DanielCtw travels to Bukit Tinggi

Oppps… wrong one. Hahaha.. well, of course, that’s the Weird One. That’s the Takeshi….. ahemz….

Bukit Tinggi Group Photo

So we have it. The group photo that we all had fun during the time in Bukit Tinggi. Wonder who is at the back doing some Ultraman pose? That’s Jason to you. Say hello to Jimmy, WingSee, Jason, Yen and of course me. Well, imagine how was it taken? 50mm? Wide angle? Beats me. Am too lazy to look at the EXIF (that’s camera data of the photo) now.

There are many places that are good to shoot photos. Though this time with time constraint, I guessed I can deal with people photos only.

Bukit Tinggi Trip 3 People

Jason, Wing See and Jimmy. They seem to love the camera. So much…. until Jimmy finally bought a DSLR. Finally someone else being poisoned to own a DSLR. Shot with the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D (just repaired it 3 days ago as of time of writing and paid RM640 for the repairs… crap) I marvel at the sharpness.

Like I said, it’s a whole new perspective. I think so many people go to Bukit Tinggi taking scenery scenes here and there and didn’t really think what else to take with. Soooo let me show you what we did there. There was this white wall above the tower. So WHITE you just have to pose with it. Yes… I mean really.. it’s a white wall of pose.

Yen White Background

No kidding. Look at Yen smiling at the camera with the white background of the wall. Imagine what one can do with this? Definitely more than what one should do. Elevate the imagination beyond your wildest imagination.

Daniel Yen White Background

Then we posed. Ahemz… I can imagine how some people were staring at us but it sure beats renting a studio in order to shoot this shot.

DanielCtw Yen White Background 2

Hmmm… natural poses eh.

Why am I missing these days? Well, I have been trying to start my photography portfolio site and it is still in development. Here’s a sneak peak.

There are definitely more to come but as of now, I don’t have much time to write more as by the time this post come online, I am already in or on the way to Seoul, South Korea and having a holiday and would be there for a week. So I am sure there would be more photos and trust me, this time I will definitely update it.

I will be back on April 23rd and have fun blogwalking. It’s time for a revival.

Tiger Blogfest 2010 – Tribute to TIGER

Posted by Daniel Chew On April - 22 - 2010

Daniel, the WEIRD ONE as some of you might refer me as, has been doing crazy and weird things since the day he blogs here. Well, not to mention that traveling is definitely one of them. As an avid traveler, I am more of a fan of wildlife and nature and traveling to places with lots of nature for me to take photos is a splendid thing to do. (Well, to me though)

It was just a week ago, when there was a Tiger Blogfest 2010 being held on the Saturday organized well enough by PlanetOfTheMonyets. Well, it was being held to uphold the rights of the tiger. In other words, we have to keep people aware that we have to save the tigers. Tigers are one of those on the brink of extinction if we don’t do something soon. Of course, in Malaysia we don’t have lions here.

Tiger Swimming In Water

In my life, the only time I have seen a tiger was in a zoo and wildlife sanctuaries. Of course, I got a chance to take a few shots of the mighty tiger there. One of them was practically swimming and cooling down in the water. Now who said that cats are afraid of the water?

Surprisingly, tigers exist too in my playing life. Well, I mean Magic the Gathering cards too, where there are a few cards. One of the nicest ones are that they look so mighty and strong in the illustrations, I have a collection of tiger cards at home, still incomplete though.

Scythe Tiger MTG Card
SCYTHE TIGER

So to cut things short, have a look at all the other tiger shots that were taken by none other than the blogger himself.

Tiger Flash

I am the GLITTERING TIGER. Take that you glittering vampires.

Tiger Ponders into Nowhere

I am wondering!

Wild Tiger I See Food

Ahhhhh~~~~ I sense food taking photos of me!

RESPECT THE TIGER! SAVE THEM! SAVE THE ECOSYSTEM!

Ps: As of now, photos will be “logofied” with the new logo. DC means Daniel Chew or DanielCtw.

More Monasteries and Mt Everest

Posted by Daniel Chew On April - 6 - 2010

Looks like Mt Everest is upcoming in this post. Or is it? When I first stepped into Pelkhor Chode Monastery, I was thinking to myself, not another monastery. I was hoping that we could actually go on our way to the trip towards Mt Everest. That’s all I ever wanted. But little did the 3 of us know is that there’s something unique regarding this monastery.

Yes, Pelkhor Chode Monastery is situated at 4050m above sea level. That’s like the peak of Mount Kinabalu, situated in Sabah. Surprisingly it wasn’t that cold and I was able to walk in with not so thick clothes. Unlike the other monasteries that we’ve been seeing all these while, these place is a little bit too far out of the country side. Thus we were able to see how was this monastery used to function.

The monastery is surrounded by walls, high and thick. This is so to look out for intruders and to prevent intruders from going into the monastery to attack it. Daniel is very impressed with the architecture of the whole structure of the area, but then that’s not what make this monastery famous. One thing though, for a monastery such as this, it’s 40 Yuan (there goes another RM20).

The picture below clearly depicts what is different about this monastery.

Look at the EYES along the walls. There are four pairs of them and this is what made this place unique. Another thing though, we are also allowed to go to the upper floors to take photos. The only catch is we have to pay 10 Yuan (another Rm5) which we all declined. (Doubt can ever take any superb photos with the sky so dark).

Finally other than these features, nothing much of this monastery. Though a funny thing happened while we were on the way out. A group of tourists (aunties group) wanted to enter the monastery only to find out they have to pay 40 Yuan for it. Then they gathered on the front gate of the monastery and took photos when the monks there asked them to leave for being cheapskate. They didn’t bothered the monk and took the photos and left with their bus. What a strange incident if you could actually see the monk’s expression and frustration of the so called cheap group.

Finally it’s time to move on. But little did we (when I say we, it means Me, EkWei and Kenny) know, we’re still are not able to continue our journey towards the mountain yet. There’s another monastery that we’re compulsory to make a stop.

This place is a whole lot bigger than the small monastery we’ve visited though. Using gold as ornaments. I must say it’s a fine monastery. Have another close up on the roof.

Yup, actually we’ve traveled quite a distance to reach this monastery and that’s why the sky is now bluish compared to the early darker sky. Kind of strange, the sky being so blue, unlike the ones I get to see here.

This monastery is also one of the most frequented. Well, with a big giant statue of Buddha, that could be the reason. Pilgrims or locals would come here, then they will walk past a path and ring the bell 3 times before going in. Then 1 time before going out.

This is the bell I am talking about.

Of course sometimes am able to capture certain shots that isn’t so monastery like. Just playing with my camera and testing it out. Well, either you can call me weird or maybe I just wanted to try something different.

But then maybe that’s not the real reason, do you see a group of people on the right? Yes, all of them are female and their doing some kind of ritual dance on the rooftop. I still don’t know why? But it sure is interesting.

The sun was blazing hot, but they still carried on doing the dance.

Soon it was time to say goodbye. Next photo is time to leave, and why is the sky so blue? I used vivid settings on my Nikon D300. That’s why it turned out that blue.

Where to next?

Let the photos do the talking and you do the thinking.

ps : In terms of photo shooting, something is not right with this photo. Though sometime rules are meant to be broken.

Finally it’s my turn to appear!

You don’t actually need a DSLR to take photos, this is proven by this person next.

Ahemz… see the camera PLEASE.

By the way, what do we all hoped to catch with our cameras here. The next photo will definitely give you an answer.

Wooots… more snow. Guessed that concludes this post. But wait where’s Mt Everest? Didn’t I mentioned it on the title. Ahemz… yup, it’s behind the lump of cloud there. Okay, then if you’re not satisfied, let’s sing.

I’ve got a feeling
Why the mountain hide from me x 2
hide from me~~~~
I’ve got a feeling
That maybe because I am weird x 2

Put away that cloud, let’s give it up
Go dance with me, let’s call it up
Why you so impatient, then just scroll down

Just scroll down, just scroll down, just scroll down~~

Woo hoo~~~~~

Food Tasting at Traffic D’light Cafe

Posted by Daniel Chew On March - 22 - 2010

It was around March, where Daniel was one of those going to go for a food gathering with a bunch of bloggers at a location situated near Bandar Utama. This place is none other than Traffic D’light Cafe and invited by Feeq. It’s been quite some time since I did a food review as a previous plan was to open a new food blog with a newly acquired domain but, looks like food are here to stay.

Site note : This post will be picture hungry, so do click the read more if you want to view more photos of food. No compensation would be given for anyone suffering from Food Drooling Symptoms.

There are at least 30 bloggers there, and yes, there are many of them there and eating here and there. From here onwards, prepare for mouth watering dishes. Word of information, there will be pork dishes so it’s gonna be tasty.

Traffic D'light Cafe

Yup, the cafe is on the upper floor above Carrefour Express.

First the starters, 30 bloggers sharing few glasses of Jasmine Tea.

The Jamine Ice Tea is not too sweet, what a thirst quencher. Looks like beer though from this photo.

Next we had a combo of mixture of fruits in a drink. Now can you imagine how these 3 glasses can be tasted by 30 people? Separate glasses? Nope all from the same straw. LOL

My Turn! My Turn!

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park using 50mm

Posted by Daniel Chew On March - 5 - 2010

Amazing how we all go through our daily life in the city, busy with our work, school work, college work and other things that get us stress. At times it is good to stroll or go for a break towards nature. Hello…. entertainment does not only come in the form of night life. So this post is so backdated but not as backdated as the one for Tibet, but here is what I want to share with you. The place I will be introducing to you is the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park situated near Lake Gardens.

It was around December 2009 and yes it was a outing for Yen and me, the weird author of this blog. Well, I could have talked about the bus ride, the stop at Petaling Street and many other instances, but as the title suggested it’s all about the bird, 鳥(とり).

Though, of course riding on the bus (The Hop On Hop Off Double Decker Bus) brought us first to Petaling Street (China Town) and because it’s so plain in the morning, the only thing I can show you is the photo down there.

Anyway let’s go back to our Kuku Bird Park. Seemingly I have only one regret while going there with my trusty D300. I’ve forgotten to bring my Nikkor 55-200mm VR Lens. *dissapointed just like the uncle’s expression at Petaling Street*. Well, not to worry, photographers do have to learn to adapt and armed with only the portraiture Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D, I proceeded to take photos of the birds.

I will say less, just observe.

SQUAWK!!!!!

Proud Peacock

My Peacock Head is Blue

The best I can do with a 50mm view of Flamingos

A photo of the surrounding lake area behind a man-made waterfall of droplets of water. I am sure some of you would want to know how much is it to enter this Bird Park. Malaysians, you’re in luck! If you have a MyKad with you, you get it for RM15 per entry if not it will be RM42 which is way higher. Is it worth it? To me, unlike a Zoo, if you just want to concentrate on the different species of birds and of course another attraction of sitting with the birds and posing with them, then yes, a bird park is the place to be.

I definitely love this next shot. I could say, it depicts action and life instead of just some public display to the public. Too bad I don’t have a zoom. Darn.

What a greedy Pelican at the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park!!

Of course, saying all this, being at the bird park, you get to see beautiful birds and their striking colors. Now how pretty is that. The sounds of birds singing and parrots talking. Everything is interesting. Of course, the next photo is prettier. :)

*PEACE*

After all, imagine carrying that big bouquet of flowers the whole time in the Bird Park. (Eh.. I also got carry oh!)

ps : How did that bouquet of flowers appear? Think….. remember I was at Petaling Street earlier. :P
pss: For those wanting to know more about Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, you can visit their official site on the link posted above.
psss: Want to see more of the photos of the bird park that I have taken, get ready to see them at my new blog mentioned at http://danielchew.net in the coming days.

Google Map to KL Bird Park

Until then, what’s next? Tibet? Bali? I think anything goes.
