[Movie] I am Number Four

Posted by danielctw On March - 12 - 2011

First and foremost, it has been such a long time since that I have done a movie review. Well, come to think of it, it’s been such a long time that I don’t really remember. So this time I am going to review this movie, I am Number Four.

I Am Number Four Poster

Then Why Suddenly Review This Movie?

I am sure by this time; lots of you folks out there have definitely watched this highly acclaimed movie with superb visual effects that were shown on the trailer. Well, as a matter of fact, I had my hopes not so high after the disastrous movie in the title of Dragonball : Evolution.

If you did watch the movie Dragonball, you will know how bad that movie was.

Look Ma! Shining Hands

Look Ma!!! Shining Hands!!!

Now what has Dragonball: Evolution got to do with I am Number Four?

Weird… why do I talk about a totally different movie? The Weird One proclaimed that aside the cool visual effects compared to Dragonball, this I am Number Four movie has got nicer graphics and made good use of the current technology able to movie makers.

Of course, let’s get back to Dragonball: Evolution.

Storyline was like Son Goku was trained by his grandfather. He was still young and naïve. Then his grandfather died to a monster (stupid green monster that looks like some cheap makeover) and he left and made friends and found a master. This master thought him and he slowly learned to use his power. A girl was thrown into the fray where she would be the love of his life. Then in the end, Goku would finally defeat Piccolo (yes.. that is what they called that green monster) and he and the girl would live happily after that.

Now you got the picture. Young and naïve + girl + acquire power + defeat bad guy + WIN!!

Similarly, I am Number Four is as a matter of fact, similar. Someone who grew up and found out he has powers and then worked together with a friend to finally defeat the evil guys. Of course, a girl was thrown into the mix up.

Storyline was too predictable (Dragonball was based on a comic adaptation so it’s understandable) and why the heck they have got to throw a female character to be his love. They should only exist in female novel kind of movies like Twilight. Seriously action packed movies shouldn’t even have them. It’s a movie sin to have them. Imagine all the fighting and then some weak human jumps into the fray and the fighting goes all soft. Imagine in an action movie, there’s only like 15 minutes of action.

Original I am Number Four Poster

So what else should I look for in the movie?

Okay, it’s not all that bad. For those who do not mind spoilers, prepare to go awwwww at the cute dog in the movie. I have a soft spot for canines but overall I would rate this movie only good for it’s visual effects but other than that, a low point from me.

Of course, this movie just reminds me of Sylar from the Heroes series (wonders whatever happened to the series?). You’ll understand once you watch this movie.

From a rating of 10, I will give this movie a rating of 4. Good cinematic effects. Lucky it wasn’t all Twilight here or I’ll give this movie a 1 out of 10. Of course, if Sora Aoi is the movie, then it would have been a 10 (yes… it doesn’t matter how bad the movie is as long there’s Sora Aoi).

Anyway thanks to Nuffnang and Churp Churp, I still get to watch this movie for free and also had a short chat with Timothy Tiah after the end of the movie. Good to see you there, Tim.

I’ve Got the Power with Sucker Punch

Posted by danielctw On February - 17 - 2011

After all those flicks and movies and theaters about the male dominant movies with their rail guns, M16 and the bombs and explosives and sweat, it’s time for some relaxing group of female firepower back into the movie. Yes, Sucker Punch is here to come and what a way for a title for a movie. Definitely a chick flick and what the heck is a sucker punch? Ahahaha… You punched the life out of a sucker?

Sucker Punch

Well, the story revolves around Babydoll (Emily Browning). Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)—to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm). Of course, now this is where I come in.

The story now revolves around Daniel Takeshi (Daniel Chew) who is stuck alongside Babydoll and the other girls who were held against their will. Strange enough, I think with my martial art skills and talent, this will be a simple knock in the butt for me. Now with Amber (the fierce one) alongside the multi-talented Daniel Takeshi (me… definitely); sorry Babydoll, guess this time you’re not the main lead, it’s time to break through by using both brain and guts and talent.

Amber - Jamie Chung
The Hot Amber (Jamie Chung)

Hold on maybe Babydoll has some uses after all. Since she could throw sucker punches to those suckers who kept us against our will. Not your average daily life, this Sucker Punch will be a hell of a hilarious movie.

Sucker Punch Power
Power of the Sucker Punch

Now who says Sucker Punches aren’t strong. No pun intended

In truth the only character with a decent name is Amber. The rest have oh so crappy names like Blondie, Sweet Pea, Rocket, it makes you think that this is a cheapo lousy movie, but nevermind, at least there’s Amber. Hahahaha…

Additional Notes: In case some of you thought that Jamie Chung is a tad bit familiar, she was Chi Chi in Dragon Ball: Evolution and also as Takara in the well known game called Red Alert 3.

Project 500 With a Vampire

Posted by danielctw On December - 7 - 2009

Project 500 of project-500.com was on at e@Curve (formerly known as Cineleisure) a week ago on a Sunday, 29nd November 2009. Well, those who came for the event were confused as to what is the event all about? As I was allowed to bring one guest to this event, so I called along Aaron Chua or known as AaronWoolala to tag along. The event even mentioned that there will be special celebrity that would be around to host the event.

Project 500 Billboard

We were greeted by this billboard at the front near the entrance of the cineplex and everyone there is clueless. Then suddenly everyone was rushed in to the cinema for the special briefing. Then this was what we saw on the front screen of the cinema.

Project 500 Main Screen

Oh… Hannah Tan is going to be the host of this event. Everyone is wondering now, and wondering what’s with Hannah Tan involving into something like Project 500. The cinema was dark, and then the hostess appeared.

Hannah Tan Briefing

Woots~~ Hannah Tan, in real life. Okay it was my first time seeing her ever since Astro Animax. A pretty face to start of with the event. Though the crowd is still clueless, what’s PROJECT 500? It is still not answered until 2 people came from the Project 500 Team and started the briefing.

Project 500 Managers

The two people in charge of the whole FAQ and Q&A session for the Project 500. There were tonnes of questions. Well, looks like we are gonna be beta testing their system which is a Social Media Aggregator (it means, you can now facebook, twitter, Yahoo Messenger, plurk, etc all in one) and that’s why they chose 500 people to do the testing. So those present were given a sneak peak.

Well, to say the least, the presentation was good, we had a view of the system itself. Though, testing it with 500 other people on the same server really isn’t a good idea though. That’s the IT side of view.

Though Project 500 did a surprise giveaway. One of the so called Elite 500 participants would walk with a HP Mini. Well, too bad though, I didn’t get it. That’s not all, we were given a treat to watch Twilight : New Moon.

New Moon Poster

Wondering what’s with 2 guys who went for the Project 500 going to be staying back watching New Moon, a so called romance story between a vampire and a human girl. This is so gay. Well, expectations weren’t high though. To those who have watched the movie, I would have said that there are 4 different perspective.

Twilight Parody

Practically I am at the point of “What We See“. Well, don’t want to say more, it might anger the Twilight fans. Though I wished that there was a twist in the story at some point. Is like that there won’t be anything to stop Edward Cullen(the vampire) to stay together with his so called human lover Bella Swan. I wondered what is so special about this movie until I read the sypnosis of the whole book in Wikipedia. Then all I wished for was another twist to the story. Then I think my wish was fulfilled when I saw this photo.

Prawns of Disctrict 9

Posted by danielctw On August - 13 - 2009

Coming from a weird kind of attitude and being weird in self, I find that I got myself kinda intrigue to this new movie from Sony Pictures and produced by Neil Blomkamp. Yes, the movie I am talking about is DISCTRICT 9 and after watching it on Premier screening time last night at the Cathay Cineplex Damansara at Cineleisure (thanks to Nuffnang and Sony Pictures), I must say I do find it impressive that I felt that I have to write a review and my thoughts on it.

District 9 Header

Yup, I will only write my own reviews if I watched it on premier (a bit bias because if I watched it on normal screen time, why write the review? Everyone can just go watch it).Basically the name Disctrict 9 feels the same like what we’ve all grown to hear about Sector 7 or Sector 21 in the States, where there are so called alien studies going on. Funny though, this time the show didn’t really happen in the United States where all the monsters, super heroes gather, but in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa. What a place to be, but all good for the plot.

Talking to Alien in District 9

For once, at least aliens don’t look like those big eyed 2 fingers thin stick kind of aliens. This time though, they look like prawns. Believe me, they call them prawns, there aren’t better name that I can conjure of though, since they really do look like prawns. I call them cute instead. The aliens here are more normal (humanoid) and seems to understand humans and not those aliens where the mission is to kill and destroy (Aliens series, Predator series).

Premier Passes To X-Men Origins Wolverine

Posted by danielctw On April - 29 - 2009

A week back, I got a splendid surprise and I found out I have the passes to one of the most awaited movie and most X-Men’s favorite hero.

DanielCtw With The Passes

What Pass is that? (I know I look chubby and not cool in the above photo)

The date was April 28 2009, the date I got my date with Wolverine from the X-Men anthologies. I received my premiere passes sponsored by CIMB Bank and since it was a premiere, as usual there would be guards stationed all around the theater. As the debut date is 29th, which is the following day, a few lucky ones have the chance to watch it first hand.

Free Passes To Wolverin X-Men Origins

Sypnosis of the Story

X-Men Origins talk about the life of Wolverine or known as John Logan from the comic. It tells of how his nature was formed, and his life from child. There are of course lots of twist and turn and I must say to those followers of the X-Men comics, they are definitely fond of Wolverine as one of the all time favorite. A few things one should know, Wolverine cannot grow old to a certain age, thus his life and longevity brings us to what we called the X-Men 2045 brought towards the future (but that’s another story).

This story tells us all about his life, how he got his claws, his brotherhood and villain The Sabretooth. Yup, there are loads more to it, die hard fans of the X-Men would know a lot of his story way back during the comic heirloom days.

My Remarks About The Movie

The movie was great. Imagine my favorite X-Men comic hero being featured in a movie. The visual effects as usual were excellent. Though at times you wondered, his character buildup was like rather invincible. Funny thing though, the trailer and posters show a lot of Scott Summers (known as the Cyclops) and Gambit. These are known names from the series. Though since this is all about Wolverine, maybe that’s why they play a very small significant part.

I would give this movie a 8/10 for it’s incredible effects and storyline. Finally you get to know what made him a beast.

Now my final response to it. I shall be Wolverine now~~~~~

Though unforeseen circumstances happened, I lost my Casio Exilim Z750 in the process. :(
