Challenges in Life

Posted by Daniel Chew On March - 28 - 2012

Right about now, your life looks bleak upon you. You felt that there are way too many oppositions, way too many problems to solve. Why do we live? Why are there so many problems, I cannot bear with it. Why are there so many challenges in life? Why can’t life be simple?

Many a times, we always ask this on our own initiative. Though we usually ask this question though perhaps, when we are facing our deepest troubles, causing us to question as to why do we have to face these kind of challenges.

One word. Life is Never Easy! (okay… make that 4 words) Being human is where we always face challenges no matter where we are. As a child, our parents sometimes put unseen pressure on us, as we need to do well in our studies so that we could be someone successful and meaningful in the future. As we grow older, we start to enrol into colleges, universities and perhaps look upon as to what our jobs might be in the future. Expectations are heavily placed upon each and everyone of us (freeloaders do not count). When we made it, people will say, “Wow!!! His life is so nice, I wished I could have one like that!” Though I foresee that it’s not always like that. People do have to work hard to achieve something they are after. Some have many challenges and while we always look at the success of some people, we never actually bothered as to how this person actually achieved the success.

Success always come after failures. As humans, we only tend to dwell on people’s successes but have we actually pondered on how many people have actually failed to become a success? Not really. Let me take a scenario.

You are in a talk. A MLM High earner is giving the talk. He talks about all the success stories from being a newspaper seller and finally after few years he became a wealthy man living his life wonderfully. Of course, we will all ponder as to this guy was able to make it, I am sure it will be good for everyone of us too. Unbeknownst to them, MLM companies has never ever told you as to how many people has failed to reach that mentioned top position. There were many who failed compared to many that seemed to be successful. Many that are failed, when asked those questions to those who are the pioneers in an MLM company, they will say that they didn’t try hard enough. Anyway the point here is, there is no easy walk in life. to reach the top you might have to do anything be it legal or illegal to be successful.

Aside from that, there are but a few challenges in life which is mainly compulsory. One of it is being able to grow up and able to live a healthy life. As human beings, some people are so not bothered with their health, they go with the saying, “We only live once, so why should I live healthily and not be able to enjoy the food I wanted to eat”.

Nice argument but then, this is what one usually says when they are still in good shape and no health problem poised before them. Until the health problem arise, this is when they start to regret and say “I want to live, please help me doctor. I do not want to die!!!!”

Climbing Bukit Tabur

I do agree that we all live once. Due to that, I am doing the things I want to do as my age permits. These are the challenges and the things I can do while I am still able to.

Challenges are what make people strong. Life is not a fairy tale. It is also not as easy as it seems. We cannot just say we will exercise when the time comes when we do not even begin with any simple exercise in the beginning. We will keep saying when the time comes until maybe even to our deathbed.

As of now, I want to make sure that I am doing the right things. So what about you? Traveling used to be a challenge to me, but for now, I am going to be ready for my next challenge. Life does not just end here. So again I would like to say, WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Blogging, Life and Worries

Posted by Daniel Chew On December - 2 - 2011

Hola. What happened these past few days? I was really stressed out.

Wait……… me???? Stressed? Not really stress but more or less some problems I have ongoing in my weird weird life. Hold on, what is this? A blogger rant? Well, you can call it that way, or you can just call it the epitome of a blogger’s life, to entertain, but as usual, we are all human beings. Aside from that, it has been like awhile since I have also dwelled on real life posts.

Being a salary man, I live on my salary. (But didn’t I earn from blogging? – My blog money only enables me to eat peanuts. Enough said) Without my monthly paid salary, I feel weak and cash flow has been very bad due to these past 2 months. WHY?? Salary was not in for 2 months. Imagine everyday eating only simple bread, gardenia waffle. The waffle taste good though. This brings me back to the days when I was still studying in college where in those days, I ended up skipping breakfast, lunch and dinner and only had supper (I eat a lot if I want, and also do not need to eat when I want). It is like I have this weird stomach, which adapts to the situation (maybe that is why I am with this body size).

If Only Stress Can Be Solved This Way

Amazingly, people think I have a decent pay due to my trips I have gone. Well, if I am you would have seen more trips on this blog which is like non-existant nowadays. I am just a humble salary man who saves his money for these trips. I was not born in a rich family unlike the lucky people who do (which I think made me the saving type).

Work has been a change for me. For those that know me, I have been a Java developer most of my working life and now slowly adapting to a new working life. It feels different, but then nothing untoward. Imagine 6 years of using Java and finally those skills are being put to rest. Though lucky I am coping well as of this date.

My social life has also changed. One is due to the resources I am lacking (no ‘tani’ sessions, no gaming sessions, no blogger events session). What does blogger events got to do with this? First and foremost, most blogger events are free, no charges. Cool… Some blogger events have goodie bags. Cool… Until we derived the part where we have to travel like 40 to 50km to and 40 to 50km back. Now that is so not cool. For something free(goodie bags, vouchers, movie passes), we tend to travel all the way to collect them and that is when we forgot to factor in the other charges of petrol, car tire wear, car maintenance, sleep time and others. I guessed I am slowly becoming a hermit who factors everything that is a cost. Wait I do have a social life – if Sims Social on Facebook counts! What a sad case right?

Life is sad and unexpected when you least know it. There are many things happening out there. For a person like me, I have been keeping tabs of what people thought of, what people tend to do, but sometimes we never know the details until someone spilt the beans. We look at things superficially and we never tend to look what is beyond that.

Some thoughts about BLOGGING

Those days, I aimed to be a prominent blogger as the blogger bug has not really hit most people yet, but look at what blogging has been doing to the blogging community now? Are the bloggers even called bloggers anymore? I meant those claiming to be personal blogs. I can see mostly posting about events and nothing more. Somehow people nowadays blog to make money rather than to blog (If you do not understand this metaphor, either my English is too ‘powderful’ or it is too deep the same way I do not understand some Chinese proverbs). In lame man terms, what does one blog? Their aim to be known? Some bloggers do go for events, but when they blog, they add some personal flavor to the post. Take for an instance a blogger I know, who goes for events and blog about it. That blogger does not blog the way most people blog like it could be seen in like any other blogs.

Take this scenario.

Group Picture Funny

An event was held. Bloggers gather. Bloggers snap photos (Mostly snapped at the same time, same depiction). Blogger go back and post their photos and talk about the event and say it was a great time and met these blogger and that blogger and it was a great event.

After the Event

While saying it was a great event (maybe they wanted to please the sponsors), they do not portray what is so great about the event. The only thing I can see coming from the blogs are just the events photo (some direct normal shoots which most blogs already have), a group of people in those photos who attended (maybe so that other bloggers can go to your blog and grab that photo and increase their hits), and more photos of the lot (well, girls who blog like this would be an exception as most people who browse their blogs just want to see a pretty face, as for guys who blog like this.. SAD CASE). So is there discrimination? There is no discrimination. Guys who read those female blogger blogs are mostly interested in the photos and tend to just skip those lengthy words. Most female readers though would pay attention to both the photos and the text along with it. As for male bloggers, if you are not someone well known, someone who does not have humor in your postings, someone who cannot take nice photos or photos of other ladies, you stand at an odd of 1:100 for people to actually caring about what you blogged about (if you’re chasing for the fame of blogging). Of course if your blog is not really a personal blog and more or less about travel and food, then that is good. At least that blog has direction.

My thoughts about blogging stopped. Like they said, why bother? Well, then just do not bother about this post then. Though if you can actually read all the way till here, it meant it could also mean something else right?

Back to the point

Age is catching up. These years are supposed to be like the most stable years. As age catches up, more problems arose. Hair loss, health problem, body gets easily injured internally, body gets tired easily, sleeping time gets lesser and lesser, work and responsibility becomes greater, wealth management becomes an important factor and so much more.

So then what is my purpose of blogging these stuffs? To rant or to prove a point? To instill my thoughts into the readers? Or to make them sit and think about these things which usually people do not have any thoughts about it.

How long has it been since a post like that from the Weird One? It must have been very long. Strange! Though I have many ideas to blog in terms of life meanings and some thoughts about the social life, security and relationships. Although, it is also wise as a blogger to balance some lengthy post with another kind of post. Imagine this, if all my posts were words, who would even bothered to read at all (unless the whole posts in the blog is about some one night stand script – which reminded me about a blog).

When one Grows Old

People change as they grow up. People see things as they grow older. The world is getting dangerous due to the fact of increasing inflation happening everywhere. The nasi lemak 20 or 50 cent that we used to buy is nowhere to be found. Now if one is lucky it is at least RM1.50 to get a nasi lemak or usually we can find one at RM3.50. Times have changed. We have so many devices which our parents before that do not have at all. We have mobile telephone, slowly we have smart phones. The demands of people are getting higher. People are copying everything. The younger generations are so obsessed with Korean dramas, up till the point they dressed like them, fake eyelashes, doll themselves up but till the very end, they do not have those Korean features which when revealed in public, I feel that they have put themselves into hot soup (but I guessed they do not really bother about it as they do not care what people see, though that is what they say when actually what they wanted people to see is their image).

Seemingly I think this piece has gone further than what it was meant to say. Indeed I have much to write out on this blog post but doing so would have made this post into an article. I will save my writings and thoughts for future posts. I think I will write an article at least once or twice a month for thoughts of life.

Notes: If you think that you have something to say, you can mentioned it at the comments session below or if you want to approach this blogger and talked to him regarding something, you can always email this blogger at the contact page or directly to his email me[at]danielctw[dot]com.

Signing out without much thought.

Journey of Life on Earth

Posted by Daniel Chew On March - 10 - 2010

There are times we look upon our past endeavors, relishing our old self and wonder what have we done for the past years. As we Journey on our life on Earth, we find ourselves thinking did we do good or did we finished what we all started? Sometimes questions like this goes into one’s mind and unknowingly, you don’t really know what to do.

Once awhile while listening to the sweet sounds of birds chirping in the air when you wake up early in the morning, you’ll wonder. Why is the day so beautiful? If only it could last longer and melodies of ones life is as sweet as a birds song.

For until it all, there are many things to think about, for we as humans are never satisfy with what we have and always wanted more. Some call it unwanted wants, while the most appropriate word would be greediness. It dawned upon me, that after going through life as a child, a kid, a teenager, a young adult, that as time goes by, responsibilities start pouring in no matter whether one likes it or not.

As a child, all we ever wanted was to play and get to meet our friends in school. Problem then was we all have to face our exams in school. Same goes to while we’re teenagers, undergoing puberty, learning to accept that the opposite sex that we once roughed together is seemingly different and attractive to the eye.

As time goes by, we go into college, universities, polytechnic to ensure we have a build up to our career. Sometimes regretting what we did during our studies, we don’t get to be what we wanted to be like our ambition back then. As time goes by, minds start to mature. People see things in a different way. There are still fun and games like how it used to be, but fun is now derived simply with a means for getting back our childhood memories.

Aside from just fun and games, people will start to think how to

- manage their finances
- the problems each family faces (when parents get old or did I earn enough to help finance the house)
- relationship (is she/he the one whom I am looking for, what if… )
- work (What will my future hold if I am still in this job? What will it be like if I am 30 and fresh graduates come out and the skill I am having now is just the same like them)
- future endeavors (can I get a nice home to stay with, will I be able to support my children, should I quit this job for the sake of my love ones). There are like it seem more things to think about as time goes by.

One can be wacky, one can do a lot of things and live to not regret it. While after all, we only have one life to live and so live your life to the fullest. Is not everyday we’re 16 or 21 or 50 or 80. It’s only a year once.

It’s to this point, sometimes simple thoughts are not just enough to constitute the magnitude of the complications of getting older. It scares me, the writer of this column too to know that I too am getting older as we see the years go by like a twinkling of an eye. For each passing day, things change, technology change. As technology changes, demands of better work quality are more as expectations are higher.

So think about it. If life could be simple, there won’t be so much heartache. It is as if there’s a way to sleep it all away. Though there’s no way we can put off technology in our life. Without technology there’s no Internet, there’s no way to communicate with other parts of the world instantly. Though with technology, gone are the ways of the old tradition. Snail mails are getting obsolete, live plays are not as enthusiastic as it used to be (people who do attend these plays expect more) and lots of new methodologies are incorporated.

For now, it feels like are you actually reading Weird Weird Denial which usually produces posts about his life, travel and photos. In case you’ve just arrived, do know that http://danielctw.com existed with writing posts such as this. Do refer to some of my thought provoking ones below.

I rest my case. If you would like to contact this blogger, do use the Contact Me section or email me at me[at]danielctw.com

4 Years Graduated

Posted by Daniel Chew On December - 14 - 2008

I was sitting in front of my desktop, in the room, lazying and wondering what is life to me? What are the importance of it, and looking aimlessly and wonderingly around the room. Then I saw the date on the wall, it showed 12th December 2004. December, surprisingly it’s now just 2 days past 12th December 2008. Time flies, those days I don’t really need to bother will I be able to be a good staff. I was more concerned of whether I can be the most noticed college student in the class.

Yup, so you have it, it’s been 4 years since I have graduated from my college, and boy… it was a short 3 to 4 years period of having fun, overnight stay and gossip of college mates pairing up with another. The time we skipped lecture just so that I can take advantage of finishing my assignments on time. The joy of skipping tutorials to go to a friends house and have a LAN party playing Ragnarok Online.

2004 Graduate Photo

Well, guessed lots have changed now. I am now on my 4th year working too, and suddenly one by one, my friends are getting along with life and some of them loves to give me their red bomb packet (wedding invitations). So off I go and cheer for them. Well, of course I am happy for them, who wouldn’t. :)

Funny, during my college years I don’t really go out a lot and used to like spending days at home. I guessed after one starts working, they can finally see that they have the expenses and modal to travel about. Let’s see.

Places I have been these past years after my graduation.

Daniel in Redang
I am not super thin. Look at my arms. They are proof.

Redang Island was a first after the completion of my final year in college. To say that I didn’t have fun would be an understatement. I am sure if you look thru the menu on the right, you’ll see a topic on Redang.

Daniel Chew on Mount Kinabalu

Not forgetting my first time traveling to the east of Malaysia. Where Borneo resides and conquered the tallest mountain or rather peak in South East Asia. Mount Kinabalu was a fun getaway for me. Funny, people say I do it once should be enough but looks like I will be going up again. Wheee~~

Thailand and Bangkok rhymes. Place where I got to see the Tiger Show, Miss Alcazar and other weird stuffs that Thais are able to see, and not in Malaysia. More weird antics, shooting the ping pong balls, opening the beer bottle with cleavage. It was also the day I tried my first insect food.

Indonesia or rather Jakarta. Was sent to this place for work purpose and though Jakarta is famous for it’s night life, I think I spent most of it on getting sick instead for at least about 9 days. That’s how bad the air and food for me during that time.

Perth, Australia would be the most enjoyable place I’ve been and to think I get to meet other people in Perth whom I only seen online. It sure was hell fantastic.

So what did I learned during these 4 years, I think I learnt that I have many more years to learn. Arghhhh….

Looking forward to tomorrow’s plan. :)
