Pulau Manukan Exploration

Posted by danielctw On May - 17 - 2009

It’s me Daniel back again and this time hoping to relive back the old activeness in me updating blogs and going about talking about my recent adventures. It really deserve a big big topic and post on it’s own, about my Manukan Island experience. Continuing from my previous post, Manukan Island is filled with lots and lots of homo sapiens and because of that there are bound to be so many things to shoot at.

Here are the past episodes of my escapade to Sabah and KK.
Part 1 – Flight To Kota Kinabalu Sabah

Group Pose
The 4 people of The Early Days of Sabah

So what do people with cameras and not snorkeling and playing in the sea do? They shoot photos. Before I continue though, what are some activities one can do on Manukan Island. They can snorkel, they can just lay down at the beach and tan themselves. Rather they can also enjoy walking under the sea. What’s that? Now presenting to you Scuba Doo!

Scuba Doo Mini Submarine

Yes, you can now go move underwater and swim with the fishes and wouldn’t be out of breath. Alright commercial break over. Those days when everyone’s on the beach, they do the above things, but with technology and everyone having a camera in hand, people now have the liberty to bring their cameras all around and everywhere. Just like these people.

OMG… ZOOM LENS ~~~ What To Shoot??

Flight to Kota Kinabalu Sabah

Posted by danielctw On May - 15 - 2009

It was May 1st 2009, a public holiday for everyone to enjoy and also a day for Daniel (DanielCtw) to enjoy his first trip of the year. Whee Hoo~~~ All the way to East Malaysia in the land of Sabah, I look, I see, I rampaged. So at the time of 7:30pm, I boarded the plane using MAS (Malaysia Airlines).

Daniel Pose in Airport Rails

Toook this photo while waiting for my flight to board. Well, credits to Mouse for helping me to take this. Err wait, is it David? *blurs* Anyway touched down and rested for the night. Well, the following day uprising, where else to go? Time to visit the jetty and to the island we shall go? Last year it was Sapi Island. This year it’s Manukan Island. (Though I grew to regret for going to Manukan Island – the crowd~~~)

Jesselton Point Kinabalu

The group photo before boarding the small boat to the island. There are lots and lots of photos but I might save that for later. Well, seemingly Jesselton Point is the only port where you can take those boats to islands like Sapi, Manukan and Gaya. If you’re in Sabah, you definitely would have heard of Sipadan and Mabul, well it’s on the other side and this port doesn’t go there. Well, just in case you thought you can go there using here though.

Going Sabah Finale [Beach]

Posted by danielctw On June - 16 - 2008

Yes, after what seemed to be a long winded post about Sabah, I decided to end with a few shots and the last of it with the title of let’s go to the Beach. The only Jetty on the west side of Sabah, Jesselton Port. By the way in case you didn’t know, Jesselton was what Kota Kinabalu was called before you know it was changed to Kota Kinabalu for obvious reasons. Malaysianism.

Here is an excerpt how it became known as Jesselton.

In 1899, the site for setting up a base on the mainland was named Jesselton, after Sir Charles Jessel – the vice Chairman of the Chartered company. Soon after the administrative centre was moved from its location at Gantisan.

I’ve got to hand it over to the tourism industry there for preserving what seemed to be an old phone booth.

Old Phone Booth

Done with HDR on a single JPEG file. Still don’t get what is HDR, you can refer to Wikipedia to know all about HDR imaging. But just before we leave for the island trips and beaches and sandy bars, have a look at their port.

Jesselton Bay

Amazing isn’t it. Well, guessed it’s time to get your ass over to Sabah now. :P

Where to destination?? Pulau Sapi, one of the most beautiful island of the west coast of Sabah or rather Borneo. Hmmm… and I had enough of the HDR imaging that I didn’t do it for the following photos.

Sabah Sceneries

Posted by danielctw On May - 29 - 2008

Sabah, the beauty of it. East Malaysia where most of the islands and landscape remained untouched. The land of tranquility and the home of the biggest flower in the world, the Rafflesia.

Rafflesia in Viviane Garden

Oh yeah, this was the only flower I found that was alive. Too bad, Rafflesia only lives like 1 or 2 weeks depending on how long it can last. So it’s a very rare flower to see when you’re in Sabah, if you’re unlucky, none to see. Well, I thought that when I descend down the trail from Mt Kinabalu, at least there would be one to see :(

Magic Pineapple

If you think seeing a Rafflesia was rather worth it, wait till you see the super fruit, the Magic Pineapple. Yes, funny right, this is really an out of shape pineapple. Somehow those green thing above it makes it looks like it’s hair covering the balls grass. So bushy so errr..green?? SWAMP THING! O_o

Descending Kinabalu Mountain

Posted by danielctw On May - 21 - 2008

Oh my, I didn’t know I really had a lot to post up for the backdated Kinabalu trip. Well or rather the Sabah tour around. Of course if you’re still clueless and didn’t follow the previous posts, here’s some flashback.

Journey To Kota Kinabalu

Trekking Up Mount Kinabalu

Kinabalu Mountain Descend

It’s only wise that since the previous post was tracking up Mount Kinabalu, the next post would be descending from Mount Kinabalu (Gunung Kinabalu). Since it’s already daytime when most of the shots were taken, it’s bound to be clear.

Random Hikers of Kinabalu

Yup, there are people from all over the world. Some Russians, but mostly Americans. Well, I’ve met a few up there and I was at the least amazed, they flew all the way to the east from the States to England, then China and finally ended up in Sabah just to climb this peak. I just love those clouds. Yup, the offer is still up for grabs. I am going again next year, and looking for more people to join in.
