Become a News Photographer

Posted by danielctw On March - 29 - 2009

Lately, I have been thinking of the real purpose of taking photos. I have been going to events and taking random photos of other people which aren’t worth to display other than keeping it for memories sake. From there, the platform exists for people like us (bloggers) to express our thoughts in photos. Though is that really what I wanted?

Seemingly, something has chanced upon me which I find it most intriguing. Ever since I had my Nikon D40 I am deemed a  photo blogger, traveling and taking photos which are deemed fit to be shown to readers and occasional visitors to my blog. I suddenly chanced upon the fact for me to become a News Photographer seems prominent now with a new site for amateur photographers or photo bloggers.

What I am saying is that a site called WeSay, an online news portal is now giving opportunities to photo bloggers out there. Sometimes all you need is  to take photos of the surrounding and environment for submission. Photo Contest is also in the their mettle where photographers get to test their strengths and flaws in the contest to come out with their best respective photos.

I am amaze at the Far Out category.  Especially the macro shots. For a person of my capability, I wonder I could even enter. As as I thought, only a handful of my photos are really worth magazine material. People take 100 shots and get at least 1 or 2 shots that are usable. Not withstanding the amount of other photo shots that are meant to be posted on blogs as they are mostly group photos. One thing though, I think a specific category that I could actually take part is the Environment Category. Well, especially since I used to travel a lot of times during my life as a blogger. What about the photo on my header? Now that would be a good choice don’t you think so?

Though if you don’t win the prize, you can still be the news photographer for WeSay. Imagine your photos published on the web and you can say,

“Darn right that’s my photo piece you’re looking at!!!”

Emo doesn’t really exist.

Posted by SWei On December - 6 - 2008

It’s been more than half an hour but my mind’s blank.

How often do people get this- writer’s block. When Daniel had asked me about reviving his almost dead blog here a couple of nights ago, I had so many ideas running in my mind. However, I was too tired to do anything then, with my exams still going on and all. Now that it’s the weekend and I managed to get myself in front of my desktop, my mind went blank.

Thoroughly blank.

It sucks.

So I decided to check out his previous comments on his “Why People Emo” blog entry. It’s funny how people get so worked up over the state of being emo.

╔═╦══╦═╗
║╩╣║║║║║
╚═╩╩╩╩═╝ Freaking cool sign eh?

Really, if you were to scroll down, it got really interesting from the 15th comment onwards. Misinterpretation of messages, angst, words of venom… People claiming themselves emo…

Actually, if I wasn’t mistaken, the word was derived from the word ‘emotional’ no? In search of the proper definition of ‘emo’, I thence looked up the urban dictionary, with 7 different search results. :/ Meh.

Here are a few examples:

Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who don’t smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands’ signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

Seriously? Hahahaha. Those are probably just people with their unique fashion trend (which I think is cool btw) creating rock music… How can THAT be emo? Next.

*

Like a Goth, only much less dark and much more Harry Potter.

LOL! I guess I have to agree with this a little bit. Emo is too overrated these days. Too well, let’s just put it this way, mainstream and commercial. With so many bands being labeled ‘emo’ these days, we don’t even know how emo really is anymore.

*

A group of white, mostly middle-class well-off kids who find imperfections in there life and create a ridiculous, depressing melodrama around each one. They often take anti-depressants, even though the majority don’t need them. They need to wake up and deal with life like everyone else instead of wallowing in their imaginary quagmire of torment.

This is uhm, kind of brutal. I wouldn’t say I’d agree or disagree with it BUT why label depressing people (no matter how much the severity is) as emo? They have problems, they need help. Give them a break and bring them to a doctor or at least talk to them please. Though, in contradiction, I kind of agree with the last sentence, still without help, they’d stuck in their own dramatised sadness, thinking they’re emo and are actually cool. :/

Okay, I think this should be it. My two cents on emoness.

Emo people, don’t shoot me please.

Sexy Mouse and Pad

Posted by danielctw On November - 13 - 2008

Those days, if you still remember when I was a very very very small time blogger (okay I am still a small time blogger but those days I was very very***), I did some random postings on the blog and it became part of me and I became part of it. My sexy mouse and pad.

Back then we all thought of a mouse as a normal tool, but little did we know that a mouse is more of an accessory. There are so many designs, until there are even sexy ones…. WTF!!!

Look!!! No Bra Mouse!! Now I wonder who will buy this kind of mouse? It’s USB too. Now this is what I call PLUG-AND-PLAY.Actually I was thinking of buying this mouse for a friend on his birthday. HAHAHAHAHA!!! Whose birthday is coming right up now?

But but but…. wait, how can a mouse be complete. A mouse this interesting wouldn’t be completed without it’s pad. I meant mouse pad. Sad that this is just an optical mouse, it needs a pad. So I have to survey over the Internet and practically search for a mouse pad.

Wheee… and here’s what I got!

Huh?? What’s that??? Breast?? Huh?? No no no… look closer.. feel how I feel.

I Need A Photobook

Posted by danielctw On September - 15 - 2008

Here I go again, going to plan my next travel plan. Due to me working in a new environment, leaves are still not available for the taking yet, just because I want to save them for the next trip. Plans are made to go to Bali, Angkor Wat and definitely to Mount Kinabalu once more. But well… all this can’t be achieved if I have no work leave to use at all.

The only thing though now is that I have limited spaces to keep my photos this time around and with all the photos all around, I hate to look around finding where are some photos. So I made this darn convention naming method for each of my photo folders. Seriously, finding a photo manager is pretty darn useful.

So then I went and look into something called SmileBooks, which is more of a photo book software thus enables me to display to my friends and families on my laptop. I must say, the designs are pretty nice, I can even make a big photo book or a regular one. Though the only problem is that to print them, it’s so far available in the US and Europe. Hopefully they will have the printing and binding and everything done in other countries. Well, of course, I will definitely keep you guys informed if there was.

Smile Book

At least this free software doesn’t have those irritating advertisements that you see anywhere on the layout of the software. Well, I tested it out and it sure is handy. Yes, forgotten to tell you, that it’s free. So no charges until you actually wanted to bind. Darn lucky you guys in the States and Europe. *Okay… maybe though it’s also good for me too as I don’t really need to spend yet*

So far so good, I can custom it the way I want it to be. What I create is up to me using my photos, mylayout, my text and my imagination. Well, the above is actually the sample layout they provided. Well, I was lost for ideas, I did try and look at other people’s smile books though in their home site. Since I am still new with this, let me try more of it’s features first.
