Bukit Tabur West Trail Climb 2012

Posted by Daniel Chew On February - 18 - 2012

Fuh~~~ after being so long in the working world, it looks like as though I do not have so much time to enjoy the outdoors like I used to do. Well, after what seemed like 4 whole years since my last Bukit Tabur hiking trip, it was time to revisit this superb nature place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur town.

Bukit Tabur East Top 2012

The date was 11th February 2012, it was early in the morning. It was a breathtaking morning where the sun is still just waking up and glowing behind the mountains. The surroundings were still misty and this created a feeling of how great is the scenery all around us. If only some of us took time to view how beautiful is God’s creation, we will begin to appreciate all the beautiful landscapes.

Butterfly Bukit Tabur

Of course, this is where I come in and that is why I brought my camera up to Bukit Tabur to tell you what you will be missing unless you try this hike yourself. The butterfly was one of the attraction up there. Shot using a 55-200mm Nikkor lens at ISO 640.

Bukit Tabur 2012 Scenery

Just like before, the scenery atop Bukit Tabur is beautiful. This time there were more mist than usual as the previous night it was raining and lucky for us, the land going up has already dried up and our shoes were not stuck in wet muddy trails. The water below is actually the reservoir lake.

This is only the first hill and the scenery is definitely pretty up there. I wished I could stay longer to take some photos but alas, I did not go alone.

Bukit Tabur 2012 Older Folks

From left: Aunty Soh Ching, Mum, Dad, Mrs Chong, Mr Chong, Mr Lee, Aunty Siew May

The oldest person who joined this hike up Bukit Tabur is a 70 year old man. The youngest being only early 40s. I am not counting myself in though. My mum and dad joined this hike too and though me being the youngest in the group, it was definitely great to see people who are older but very geared up to take part in this hike up Bukit Tabur (Tabur Hill).

The best part about this hike, though how dangerous it looked, as long one pays attention and listen to orders and do not play around, this hike is definitely enjoyable. Also I always love to offer this challenge to new people who seeks challenge. If a 70 year old uncle and aunt can make it to the top and down, why not you who is younger? Of course, the hike could actually should take about 2 hours up and down. We took 5 hours though.

Rant In Quotes Below. Read with Caution

Sometimes we think that we are getting too modern, we felt like we do not need to exercise. Exercise is the thing of the past. Going to gym to build big muscles seems the greatest thing. Though let me say something here, being fit is not about going to gym to bulk up, or use some exercise machine like the tummy bouncer (Ogawa machines) to make one slim down. It is all about using your energy to exercise, not only certain part of your bodies but everywhere. Being coop up in the house or the gym is just bad air for your lungs. Thinking that life should be just like it is and not doing anything because this is your life, think again.

What about me? The reason why I love doing all this is because I do not want to be when I am 60 to 70 years old, I do not have the strength to play with my grandson or granddaughter. I do not want to be just a fragile old man. I rather keep myself healthy rather than binge on food.

Well, anyway putting that aside, Bukit Tabur is still one of the greatest hill to climb. The only thing that was missing is the hard rope absailing that used to be on one of the rocks. Now it is just steps and hand rails at that specific spot. Of course, there is one where one have to use their hand and feet coordination to climb down the cliff using the rope. A mistake in letting go your hand will result in falling down the cliff below and never to be seen again.

Bukit Tabur 2012 Group Photo

What has become of me? Since 2011, I have now gained 6kg. I am looking forward to gaining at least another 4kg to have a very lean body. Definitely not going to put on another 4kg of fats. This is my aim for the year 2012.

Until then, till many more strange and weird and exciting adventures to come in the year 2012. Well, I perceive that the year 2012 will be a great year. Why shouldn’t it?

Bukit Tabur PreTraining Hike

Posted by Daniel Chew On April - 27 - 2008

Alright, I agree I was kinda lazy these few days, but what can I do when I am still on a holiday mood when I was up and away to East Malaysia in Sabah. Well, I was there for 6 days, and there’s bound to be lotsa stuffs to talk about.

Climbing Mt Kinabalu was really tough but in order for me to get myself prepare for this gruesome climb, I need some pre-training hike and what a better place to do that than Bukit Tabur (Tabur Hill). Yes, if you’ve been following me, I think some of you have seen some snapshots of Tabur Hill but those pictures were like some kind of crap photos. But I assure you this time, it’s gonna rock.

Imagine looking from the cliff above and see like there’s two world’s apart. One on the right is civilization, another on the left is a lake . It was misty that day, so pictures are bound to be “mistified“.

Bukit Tabur Year End Climb

Posted by Daniel Chew On December - 19 - 2007

So think of climbing the hills once again. Yes, I went up to Tabur Hills or Bukit Tabur. This time bringing a group of 3 guys and 3 girls. Well, include me then it’s 4 guys and 3 girls. Haha… what can I say about this trip? Well, they’re all beginners and never had any experience climbing up a hill, well one said they climbed once on this hill but only half way.

Well, what’s so special about this Tabur Hills a.k.a Bukit Tabur? I am sure many of you know that it’s a quartz hill that is scalable and needs usage of hands to do it.

Be warned though, if you don’t want to get your legs and hand scarred, get a glove and it’s funny, looking at the group I brought having difficulties scaling down the slope using the rope. Well, I even need to offer my knee to one of them. Anyway best you people take a look at the photos instead.

Bukit Tabur Over The Lake

I can see the dam and the water contained in it. Fuiyoh, shocking. Imagine falling down from here. Hehehe… well Tabur Hills is indeed worth the climb up till 6 hours the longest journey I had. Though I did finished it in 2 hours before.

Mouse Law with Fake Climb Up Rock

LOL!!! OK, this is fake, even the expression is fake. It’s not as taxing as that, but you really do need to use hands. Well, want to know how tough, just carry on looking.

Way Down Bukit Tabur

Yes, it was a climb to remember and yes, we went for Tom Yam after that. Well, I can still organize another trip and if you want to climb too, just drop me a line or a message. :) Last but not least, enjoy the rope short movie clip below.

Edit : Movie clip not loading from YouTube so stay tune for the video update later.

Labour Day Bukit Tabur Climb

Posted by Daniel Chew On May - 5 - 2007

Yoo hooo… I say… yoo hoo hoo hooo… it’s not true… I’ve been used… I’ve been on the evening news..
O.o

Bukit TaburOk, so I know I went up Bukit Tabur. What do I do there? Why the heck someone like me kept on going up Bukit Tabur? So free isit? Nothing to do is it? Always climb here, go here and there. Aiyoh… what to do I love to jalan jalan as in adventuring about. If not very very the sienz sometimes.

But too bad, I won’t have that super privilege coming right up this week. So many work to do, all with datelines coming on Tuesday. Aih…. “sei for” someone kill me please.

Funny thing is that after my previous few trips with like 3 to 4 people. Seems like this time I’ve got 7 people going up this time. Ho ho ho… oh ya… Only 2 of them are 2nd time climbers while the other 4 are first timers and girls. So it’s also up to me, a super experience trekker to go lead the way and to guide them while descending from the rocks using the rope.

Scorpion
What the heck, a scorpion on the trail up the hill? It’s about 15cm long. What the, as long as a basic ruler!!!!

Catch Scorpion

Me caught the scorpion Bwahahaha… ya rite..

Every climb one always get to see new things. How close can one get to a real life jungle type scorpion. Ha ha.. Well, at least I’ve seen one there. A huge one too. ><

rope climb

Bukit Tabur pose
Of course, I must do my pose whenever I go somewhere. Well, always me taking photos. Why not my own photos lor. I was like “Ho la… I am looking for any pretty leng lui in the sky?” O.o Nuts rite??

What can I say of the weather, it was fine on that day. Very sunny and glad that sometimes the sun was blocked by the clouds. Most of them got sunburn though. Ha ha.. that’s the price one has to pay for slowing down. It’s almost noon, of coz it’s sunny. Duhh… I can climb up again for a small price. Say RM5 per person or you just have to pay for my lunch. he he he he…

Anyway to end this interesting climb and trip, if I am not lazy I might post a part 2 or rather why not I just give you something I found amusing on this trip too. I call it the missing link story of YB (Young Brat of imtoobad.blogspot.com). *fast fast run away*
