Post Mortem PBIM 2010 Penang Trip

Posted by danielctw On November - 29 - 2010

I just came back from Penang Island after running the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2010 event. Well, the event did go as planned. Something to talk about and to share my experiences there.

DanielCtw PBIM Welcome Pose

The collection was done at Queensbay Mall area and I can see some familiar faces. Well, I see familiar faces but look at what Kyuzo was looking at.

Kyuzo Checking Out Girl

AHEM AHEM!!!

I was there along with Kyuzo and staying at a church member’s house. Well, both of us ran the 21km which I find that I am lacking training and considering this is one of the major events, I decided to run for it even though only ran 5km in the past 3 months with other days doing just sleeping and eating.

We arrived on Saturday in the morning about 11am and decided it’s time to look for some food before we continue elsewhere. So after taking all those photos of the collection counter and meeting up with some of the runners, we’re off for some food hunting. Chin Ann was the one who drove us around. First we had Beef Noodles. Then we had the famous Teochew Cendol or Chendul at Penang Road.

TeoChew Chendul Penang

The Chendul only cost RM1.80. Hmmm… somehow it was to quench my thirst. Since while we’re here, why not take the drive to another place. Let’s have some coconuts.

Amba Coconut

CHOP CHOP CHOP… Now here is your coconut. Surprisingly, met a blogger KokAhKok there. Well or he was the one who was checking me out. Ahem…

What a hot hot day in Penang Island. After that we all retire back to our resting place and slept early as the run will start at 3am. Now let’s get back to the run.

The run started at 3AM. There are lots of people at the run. Cinya late, we can’t reach the starting point in time for the gun shot. Well, we ran from the road and upon reaching the starting point, walao… cinya many people there. All still queuing to the starting point. In the end after the gun shot, I went past the starting point 4 minutes after. Kyuzo paced me as we try to break free from the slower than usual runners.

PBIM 21KM Running Route

Amazingly, I was amazed that I could withstood 6km of non stop running along with Kyuzo. Well, it was near the bridge and after running for awhile, I decided I had enough as I was afraid my body could not bear the amount of work put on it. What was worst was that the heavy rain makes it harder to run with the cold win and your stomach seems hard to digest.  Sure enough, after completing the run in a time of 2:46:47, I could feel my leg not relaxed and aching.

This is the result of my run in PBIM 2010 21KM

Official Timing

Hmmm…. Position number 1869 from the point of the gun shot. 02:51:36 is the time from the gun shot and 02:46:47 is my chip time.

Not bad since it betters the 21km timing of the KL Half Marathon (though it seems that it’s not 21km but 25km). It’ll be a long way before I can break below 2 hours 30 minutes.

Distance: 22.22 km
Pace: 7.32 min/km
Time: 2.47.18
Total Climb: 600 m

My Split Time: 6:00 | 6:43 | 7:29 | 7:03 | 6:49 | 6:39 | 7:00 | 7:02 | 6:18 | 8:16 | 8:07 | 8:10 | 8:11 | 7:13 | 7:24 | 7:56 | 7:54 | 8:17 | 7:43 | 9:04 (Crap!!) | 7:59 | 8:18

After looking at my timing, I realized I have slowed down a lot compared to previous runs. I need my stamina back and the urge to push myself faster. So all I need is more practice.

So it’s time for some photos with the gang.

Completed PBIM Medal Pose

From left: Audrey, ME, Kyuzo, Sook Mei

Hmmm… yes, I looked constipated. I was superbly tired after the run, I just knew I had to take a super sleep after that. Of course, it was great meeting one of the shouters. Charles Kee from IMChuckie.

DanielCtw and IMChuckie

Taken using my HTC Hero, that’s the best photo I’ve gotten.

What about other victory poses? Still waiting for some photos from Sook Mei though. Till my next run which is I would think it’ll be likely the following year 2011. Want to join the run? Just message me or come for a run sometime soon.

Prepare for Penang Bridge Marathon 2010

Posted by danielctw On November - 20 - 2010

Penang Bridge Marathon is coming up again. This time it will be on the 21st November 2010. Finally I will be running in this run after putting it off for a few years. Though I will be running in the 21km. A few days before I will be leaving to Penang, I got the package from the organizers.

PBIM Running Materials

Not bad considering the vest is in yellow. The reason is fairly simple, DiGi is the sponsor of this event and thus we 21km Half Marathon runners will be running in bright yellow. Makes me feel like the Yellow Man from DiGi. Wondering how does the vest feel since it’s from New Balance, I decided to put it on.

DanielCtw PBIM Vest Model

Darn… looks like the measurement is unlike the Reebok one which somehow fits perfectly well. It has an opening quite big around the armpits and the arm. You don’t see my head here and I am just focusing on the vest. Besides I just cut my hair, so ain’t gonna reveal how I looked like yet after the hairdo. If you are in Penang Island and saw me running along the road, remember to say Hi and we can do some catching up together. I think I will be able to finish the run within 3 hours so I should finish about 5am in which most people are not up yet.

Training for only once a week just 2 weeks ago is not going to put me into perfect shape for a faster timing. Anyway, let’s see how far it can go. Besides I am a night person. Till then, I’ll be updating more frequently.

If I have a Big House

Posted by danielctw On November - 20 - 2010

I have been looking at properties recently. Seems like that there are so many things I have to think about in the coming years to come. Just like a snap on a finger, the year is going to come to an end again and it just seems like it was just yesterday. Anyway these few days I was wondering how it would look like if I could decorate my own room. How would I arrange my bedroom? How will the furniture look like and the many shapes and sizes.

I mentioned earlier I was looking at properties. Well, suddenly it makes me fantasize what kind of furniture I could put in if I had a house which is that big (yes was visiting a house that cost RM5million ~ must pretend right – crazy amount there which I wished I was a billionaire). Yes, the house is super big, you have 3 storeys, a swimming pool and a elevator. *Shocking*

Imagine what I could do. I could set up a room just for gym equipments. Hold on.. hold on.. Why not set a theme for the whole house. If given the choice, most girls usually would want to ‘pink’ the whole house. As for me, I think I prefer it all white. It feels soothing and nothing girlish or bluish (might spoil the mood). Only problem though is that someone’s hand might stain the walls if it’s all white.

Of course, having a white theme is like living in a snow castle. For someone as weird as me, you would have expected me to go for colors like black or purple or some other color but white. That being said, I chose white because I want to be different from the normal weird perspective. So I shall make all my rooms white with white furniture. Then there would be white bedroom furniture, white living room furniture, white kitchen furniture, white toilet furniture (huh??? Nahh.. just pulling your leg there).

As a person who usually shops his stuff online, I went to search for unique and weird furniture stuffs available on the Internet. Aha~~~ I found a website call www.newenglandlifestyle.com and looks like they are selling all things white.

green cupboard

Imagine my cupboard from green turn to white. Oh crap, you’ve seen my cupboard. Nooooo… gone is my privacy. Then it dawned upon me. Why not a try looking through for a white cupboard? Something like the one below.

White Cupboard

Strange though but definitely elegant. Then why not one of the white tables to go with this?

White Table

So Christmas is coming. Anyone going to get for me these? I will definitely appreciate it a lot though.

My Package From USA

Posted by danielctw On November - 10 - 2010

Coming home today, I noticed I finally got my package. Yes, they finally came from the United States of America (USA). Well, nothing to brag about if you’re an Ebay customer and user. Well, been buying stuffs online and trust me, most of them use postal services that don’t use stamp at all. Finally came one with a stamp.

Package from USA

Yes, there are 2 envelopes and the one in front is the one with a stamp from the States. Why am I so jolly happy? Was it the contents? Well, as can be seen from the stamping date, this mail was sent on the October 27th 2010 and it was received on the November 9th 2010. Nearly 2 weeks.

The reason I am so happy is actually because I can now add on a one more stamp into my stamp album. Seemingly, I used to collect stamps when they were the hype and when email wasn’t around. Yes, seriously I was that old, I only got to know about email when I was 15 years old and only started using them when I was 18 years old. Those days getting a computer was expensive and I only had a 20++kbps connection modem with me.

Stamp Collections

Imagine how precious they were, I have like a few stamp albums around and that is not counting those stamps that weren’t put into the album at all yet. If you happen to love stamps too and happen to know me, why not we have a short get together and talk about this old old hobby and also have a look at each others collection.

Sidetrack
I am sure you’re eager to know what’s in the envelope. Well, there you have it.

MTG Survival of the Fittest & Black Knight Revised

An old school game which is still a hype amongst certain group of people. One thing is for sure, you definitely need to know your English language well.

You must be wondering how much does this cards cost? Here’s the breakthrough.

Survival of the Fittest cost USD40.
Black Knight‘s cost though can be ignored for collection purpose.

Still clueless? It’s Magic The Gathering card game. To know more about this game, you may visit Wizards Official Website on Magic The Gathering.

How to Win Haagen Dazs Vouchers

Posted by danielctw On November - 8 - 2010

Strange and weird enough, it looks like I am having a good time in the month of November. I won Skyline movie passes from Nuffnang, vouchers from Sentosa and also Haagen Dazs vouchers from Exabytes.

Happy Client Winner October 2010 Daniel

This is a good time to start my day on this boring Monday. Of course one of those that I don’t expect to win was the Exabytes voucher, and all one needed to do was to put a banner or an indication that you’re a happy client under Exabytes (can be seen from the banner on the right).

Of course that does not mean that after winning this, I will stop using Exabytes *evil* but let me tell you about my experience with Exabytes as my web host.

The only hiccup I could ever remember was when there was a downtime and a failure of installation of my blog after I backup the whole thing and reinstalled wordpress due to some security issue on the database side. I got an error halfway installing and I contacted Exabytes through email. Fair enough, I got a reply in the middle of the night. That is what I call super fast reply. The problem was soon solved with the administrator clearing some data that has stopped me from installing an application and everything is fine after that.

So communication wise, I am a Happy Client. Well, so now that I have these Haagen Dazs Ice Cream vouchers, I am sure anyone would also want them. Well, if you still haven’t started hosting your blog or your site, why not try Exabytes. Maybe they might give something special the next time.

If you still ain’t sure, you can try browse through their package below using the banner I posted.

Cheers… only RM9.90 per year and you’re eligible to participate in the Are You A Happy Client competition.

Though one thing that baffles me is even though I have won this, how do I get my vouchers? By post?

PS: This is not a paid post (I wished it were though), writing out of my own free will.

PSS: Of course, I won’t forget writing about the Bali and Philippines trip and yes, will get to that shortly since I would try to jump start my blogging course within these few months for a new 2011.
