A strange call came today, while I was doing my work (sort of.. ). As usual work is there when there is. Anyway, what happened was, being somewhat curious as to who call me, the number didn’t register in my mind. The number was 03-21788888, which I later found out was AmBank Customer Call phone number.
Here’s what happened when I picked up the call
A Chinese lady was speaking with weird English in a seemingly powerful Chinese accent.
“This is AmBank Credit Card centre. We have detected a pending transaction of RM3800 in your account. Please press 1 to confirm transaction. Press 2 to talk with our customer service or press 9 to repeat.”
I waited, and the whole thing repeats again.
Well, this was what I did!
While the repeat process was on-going.. “We have detected a pending…….” I ENDED THE CALL!!! MUAHAHA
Seriously I was laughing when I did that and my colleague just opposite me was asking what the heck is wrong with me. I just said AmBank called me with a pending transaction thingy, could be a scam. Well, being someone who is of curious nature, I (Daniel Bruce Lee) went to look for this number displayed on my cellphone on the World Wide Web. Sure enough, it’s definitely AmBank’s service number only that someone is using it as a fraud case to con people into giving information about their personal information.
Now I wonder what would have happened if I just confirm the transaction?
My guess would be:
“Please key in your credit card number and your cv number to proceed”. Or the same as before, forwarded to the so called “Customer Service”.
Darn… I should have played more.
Nowadays, which is the real call which is not … so scary… 🙁
aiyak, yours short-lived liaoo.. i made it to the police station somemore.. brilliant me!
hi daniel, i received this call minutes ago too. after read through your post, i can confirm is a fraud call d. thanks
I just rcvd call frm this no.! Am now sms-ing to all my friends.. hoping they won’t kena… At 1st i almost fall for it, as i recently credited a chq amounting the similar amount the ‘operator’ mentioned, but it sounded weird.. so i just hold to listen the repeat, after 2nd time repeating.. i almost press the ‘customer service’ line. Was thinking and thinking, could it be a fraud. And the call ended itself automatically!! So scary.. cos u r totally unprepared! Fewwwh…
I just received the same call…
I was wondering since when the bank uses such accent lady to be the operator..
i regret for not pressing any number!!! hahahahaha
on 30 dis 2009, I lost around RM6000 because believe the call was from Ambank because i saved the numbr in my mobile for emergency case.why not ambnk sent an alert when the post the credt crd statement. There will read about this scam. not all people sit in front of pc and searching about this scam. how can they can access ambank number . where is the safety ..big bank but somebody outside can simply hack your system and cheat people like me. when i went to report at sec 6 Shah Alam police station, an inspector said there is so many cases about this ambank fraud calls. Ambank should do something before many people get trouble.don’t run only for profit from your customer but give them security.at least give an alert send all credit card customer a letter regarding this issue. This is your social responsible
What are the information you provide to them and they can easily cheat your money?
The customer service could go on the lines of
“Hi, thank you for calling AmBank Customer Care, in order to proceed, how do I address you?
Then proceed with asking account number, mum’s maiden name, last transaction, etc. By doing so, they can then make a different report to Ambank and then reset, etc, or whatever they can do.
The number has been tapped by irresposible hackers attacking innocent customers when actually if the bank making a call out the number will never appear in customer’s mobile phone. This case has caused devestation and abundance of workload to us as a staff answer inquiries from customer who had become a victim of this malicious act. Eventually the activity subsided.
thanks for sharing
OMG,I did received this call….but I was give them my full name n ic number..a guys call Kelvin Tan said that my pending transaction waiting for approve in KLIA, and my current outstanding amount RM6232.I insist that I didn’t did any transaction n I don’t ever had ambank c.card at all…so,they gave me a number (03-2788 4916) said its BNM contact no,ask me call n report this case, and ask BNM to investigation. Then I said OK,and he said after I report they’ll receive a letter from BNM~and they’ll cancel all the transaction n my outstanding.
But ofcourse I didn’t call…I’ll jz go Ambank brunch to check it further.
Yup, that should be the way to do it.
If not sure, always call the proper number for AmBank to be sure that it is really them.
I just received the similar call from 03-21888888 on 20/2/14 noon but did not call the Bank Negara number that given to me,I went to the nearest AmBank to calify and confirm is a fraud case, although I did not loss any money under this case but I have making a police report hope police can do detail investigation to avoid the similar indicient happen on other peoples….
Juz got my fair share of this call. Similar recording and i press 9 for customer service and was connected to a malay man asking me how he can help me. Told him they called the wrong number and he says ok. Aiyahhhh, should have told him to give me a free Estima since i was searching for one online.
Now that’s an epic reply. Well, scams are happening a lot recently so it is to no wonder that with the official number even displayed, it is harder not to believe.
Fuh! I just got the call today! Same case, got a call from ambank credit card operator said i got pending transaction approval, ten i presa 9, spoke with ambank customer care, i gave my name n ic number too, then he gave me BNM no. 0327885073. I make a call then i gave my personal information. But not my acc no. He ask me to wait about 3 days for the investigation. So what should i do??????
Your information has been compromised. With just your name, mother’s maiden name or anything else they can call the real bank and give them those info to ask for reset or what they wanted to do with your account. Please do contact the bank and tell them that you just gave out some information. Be careful next time.
I just received call from a number 0321673000 and a chinese guy with funny english, told me that he is calling from ambank credit card centre which I have a pending transaction purchasing in oversea at amount of rm3,800.00. I never apply credit card from ambank so they ask me to call to bank negara for a report as i have a previous unpaid statement at amount of rm6232.04 and they even gave me the bank negara report department number 0327885073 and he reminded me twice of that number. I was so curious with the number so I went to search from bank negara website and dialed to the given customer service number 1300 88 5465( Link), the bank negara operator told me all these are money scamming programs and no need to bother about this case. If u never apply any card or loan then just ignore it. But I am still wondering do I need to go ambank to verify of the ‘credit card’ and make a police report?
i just receive the call said i made a purchase at poh kong klia .. the number that call me is 60321673833. Amount that i purchase is RM3862.00. The guy that pick up my call asked my name and just give my short name and when they asked my ic number i gave him. This guy that pick u p my call said my card number is 4455 1932 8653 2658 and the address is at 72, Jalan Puteri 2/6, Bandar Puteri, 47100 Puchong, SElangor.
He asked me to report to Bank Negara, phone number 0327884658 and he said the officer there will entertain my report but i didn’t lodge the report.
But, is this will effected our finance at any bank?
Hi Zainab,
If you are unsure, do call back the bank using the official telephone number. Also if that is your card number, do report to them saying it is a fraud. If it is not any card you own, you can say that you have just received a call earlier. The bank will proceed to tell you what to do next.
Here is the AmBank Customer Care number : 1300 80 8888 (Domestic)
Thanks. I already contacted Ambank Service Centre.
Hi,
I got such call about an AmBank Visa Gold card which i never had this morning. Looks like the Syndicate is using another number now 03-2167 3833 . A guy named Max Wong who first spoke in Malay ‘served’ me. When I told him my name, he started speaking in Mandarin.
AmBank Call Center 1300 8088 8820 confirmed the new number is used as a Fraud.
Be Careful fellow Malaysians !!
Hi all,
I received the same call today supposedly from ambank 03-21888899. I didn’t respond. The message just keep repeating. So the scam is still on. Be careful
Received a call today, said I had a pending transaction. The supposed ‘operator’ sounds off, not the usual operator/machinated voice usually heard, so I hung up.
