Kid’s Life – Me?

Posted by danielctw On March - 20 - 2007

danielctw wished he was a child
—————————————————————————————————-
Time flies, and whooosh… you’re a year older when the new year comes by. My my my, how many years have past since you last remembered your childhood days, playing in the playground, piggy backing on your dads shoulders and back. Those were the times when I was young, I would very much anticipate the starting of Thundercats, Space Ghost, Silverhawk, Transformers, etc.

Most importantly, everything that was done that time was simply an adventure. Sometimes too adventurous, that sometimes our own parents scared we fall down the spiderman netting on the playground. One of them was walking underneath a monsoon drain below the road. Haha.. that was what I did during my primary school years. (Not to mention dragging along some of my friends).

Looking back, I used to like the color red. Those were the times where parents used to bring their child to playgrounds, parks for picnics and some jogging. It was indeed fun. Now, all I see are kids playing on the computer day in day out, hardly moving their muscles and always on the verge to going bonkers in the tuition centres. The funny thing is that, everyone is talking about getting more A’s than having fun. I’m glad my parents were more into the outgoing type though.

So here we go Thunder Thunder Thunder Thunder Cats HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
(Exaggeration at it’s best)

Hot Springs Sungai Klah, Sungkai

Posted by danielctw On March - 17 - 2007

It’s been one week and what a holiday I had, though it was only a one day trip. Well, who would have thought that the place I was visiting was called TRAP?

Trap Sungkai Board Walk

TRAP??? What the heck is this place? Well actually is a hot spring located near Sungkai or basically called Hot Springs Park Sungai Klah. Well, so what’s it got to do with Trap? Hmm… in the native language in Malaysia, it’s Taman Rekreasi Air Panas, which is basically Hot Springs Recreational Park. Oh man, they are good in naming these…

welcome to Sungkai Hot Springs

So gone is the TRAP issue, but as Malaysia is a hot and humid country, what the heck am I doing there? Imagine this, me and a group of us reached this specific place around 11am somewhere near afternoon with the sun shining just rightly above. Hot springs in the sun??? Well, that’s what you get for being weird, well this place is Weird Weird Denial right. Enough of crap….
Being in this place sort of let’s one relax from the busy days in the office or studies. It’s more like a leisure. Although on the way to this location, I was witnessing the upgrading of roads and all these are done in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007. Looks like this location is put as one of the hot spots for Visit Malaysia Event.

Sungkai Trap Dipping Pool

Ok, first thing though, the springs here are naturally hot. No underground heater located beneath the earth (ehehe… a few jokes I shared with my colleague, sorry mate!! ). Well to know more about hot springs and it’s wonder, I prefer I don’t talk about it but instead one can google more about the natural happenings of this phenomenon. So the springs here, it’s hot, why would someone wants to dip themselves in hot water? Good question. Let me give you my opinion on this question…to relax, good therapy, relaxation, etc…yadda yadda, bla bla, woof woof, meow meow *slapped by readers* *OUCH*

Board Walk Sungkai Hot Springs

The water is deemed pretty hot, with water boiling up till 100 degrees Celsius. Yup, it’s that hot. Well of course, I am not that stupid to go put myself into the boiling water, except maybe when we were boiling the eggs to eat it there. The places we dipped are around 40 – 50 degrees Celsius. Some of the places noted there are the Dipping Pool (Kolam Beremdam), Board Walk (a 15 minutes walk of wooden bridge across the hot springs source), Family Spa (private dip of natural water with added jacuzzi feel) and the natural mountain water pool(well of course some people wanted to cool themselves in cool waters, myself included).

Hot Springs Source

So many things to show, but so little photos to show. I just missed some amazing shots. Though I will continue with my trip to Ipoh after my Hot Springs trip. Well, it was worth the while after having some cool hot ‘dipping’, hunger strikes. What a better way than to go to our food location right at the town of Ipoh. Well, but that’s another post. Hehehehe.. adios, waiting is so much pleasure don’t you think so.

*Runs before someone pokes me*

Note: Edited on 18th April 2010 on the photos. The photos are now larger for the viewing pleasure of the readers.

Hang Tuah – Taming Sari

Posted by danielctw On March - 8 - 2007

Finally history has been brought upon once again. My first article for this blog was upon the origins of Hang Tuah. Well, it wasn’t for that purpose to enquire what are his origins and where he comes from. It’s more to like why the heck that the education sector is taking the study on Hang Tuah out from the Malaysian history text books? Anyway that’s another story. To read more of my this article, refer HERE.

Since we’re talking about Hang Tuah, why not create a sequel to it. What was Hang Tuah (Hang Tiew/Too Ah)’s favourite and legendary weapon? It was a ‘keris’ (kris as pronounced in the English spelling), a miniature sword which it’s edges not straight but crooked. Those are the days when fighting and war was more into hand skills and techniques.

Comparing to our now way of fighting which are espionage, bombs & more bombs…boring…

Anyway back to topic, the kris for Hang Tuah (for simplicity purpose I’ll use Hang Tuah as Hang Tuah) was like what made him invincible through out his adventures. Well, his kris wasn’t just any ordinary kris, even had a name for it. The legendary “Taming Sari“.

Few facts and legends of Taming Sari

1. Taming Sari, classified as keris kuasa or bawar, is made of an alloy of 20 metal composites, some said to come from bolts holding Mecca’s Holy Kaabah gates.

2. It was said that Taming Sari could do Hang Tuah’s fighting for him – if Hang Tuah were menaced or in any way endangered, the keris would leap out of its sheath all by itself, fly through the air and attack the assailant, moving in the air whichever way the assailant dodged or turned, until it hit its mark.

3. The whole of the sampir and batang are covered in gold leaf, making it a keris gabus or keris terapang.

Funny though, during my primary school years which was in the 90s, the legendary Taming Sari was said to be thrown by Hang Tuah into the river and was never been found again. I was like shocked when I decided to research on Hang Tuah once again to find out whatever about him and maybe his special kris. It appears that somehow history have to be changed and it seems that the kris was recovered by Tun Mamat for the safekeeping for the sultan.

One of the legends and specialty of the Taming Sari was that it has it’s own natural powers. Like a flying dagger you see in movies. It can auto block, auto counter. Legend?? Fact or fiction?? Go figure..
